Settle First
Take a few quiet breaths. Let the immediate panic, anger, or fear soften before you begin. Prayer spoken from steadiness is different from prayer shouted by anxiety.
A place to return before, during, and after spell work
This room is yours before a casting begins, while the work is underway, through the waiting period after a casting is complete, and whenever you want to return to your spiritual focus later. Come here to settle your thoughts, speak your prayer, honor the Mysteries, strengthen your intention, and make room for patience, hope, and positive movement.
✦ Before • During • After • Return Whenever You Need ✦Come in. Sit for a moment. You are welcome here.
There is no expiration date on this room. If your casting was completed yesterday, last month, or long ago, you are still welcome to return whenever prayer, meditation, grounding, or quiet spiritual focus would help.
A familiar bridge between traditions
This card is here for a very specific reason. It is part of the way Spellmaker has traditionally worked with Papa Legba and with the Heart’s Desire behind your spell work.
We use Catholic imagery as part of the traditional syncretization of Catholic saints with the Vodou lwa. In this prayer practice, St. Anthony is used as a Catholic counterpart representation of Papa Legba.
You may pray this prayer as often as you like, asking that the Heart’s Desire of your spell work manifest itself. It is one of many ways you can continue to work toward your goal while your spell work unfolds.
Prayer, meditation, affirmations, spiritual focus, and practical steps in your own life can all help you keep your energy directed toward the outcome you are seeking. Even when Mambo Sam is doing the spell casting for you, your desire, your prayers, and the energy you bring to your goal remain part of the work.
For easy reading on phones and tablets
Holy Saint Anthony, gentle and powerful in your help, your love for God and charity for His creatures, made you worthy, when on earth, to possess miraculous powers.
Miracles waited on your word, which you were always ready to request for those in trouble or anxiety.
Encouraged by this thought, I implore you to obtain for me:
The answer to my prayer may require a miracle. Even so, you are the Saint of miracles.
Gentle and loving Saint Anthony, whose heart is ever full of human sympathy, take my petition to the Infant Savior for whom you have such a great love, and the gratitude of my heart will ever be yours.
Amen.
You may return to this prayer as often as you like while holding your Heart’s Desire in mind and asking that the work move toward manifestation.
Begin by opening the way
You may read this slowly as written, or pause wherever you need to speak naturally about your own situation.
Papa Legba, Open the Gates
Papa Legba, open up the gates that shield your world from mine.
Papa Legba, please listen to the words of The Others who proffer in my behalf.
Papa Legba, I need your help and the help of the other Grand Mysteries.
Make our two worlds one for this brief time.
Let all the Glorious Hands of Mercy shape and improve my situation.
Hear my gratitude.
Do this for me.
For the Mystery you personally honor
You do not need a separate page for every Mystery. Use the name and qualities of the lwa you feel closest to, while remembering that every relationship with the lwa deserves respect.
Beloved [name of lwa], I greet you with respect and gratitude. I remember your strength, your nature, and the gifts for which you are known.
I ask you to look kindly upon the work being done on my behalf. Where the way can be opened, help open it. Where confusion can be cleared, help bring clarity. Where courage, patience, truth, healing, love, justice, prosperity, protection, or wisdom are needed, lend your good influence according to your nature.
I do not ask from fear alone. I ask with respect. I will do my part in the world of people while the Mysteries do what is theirs to do.
May what is beneficial take root. May what is harmful lose its hold. May the work move toward the best outcome that can truly be made from this situation.
I thank you for hearing me. I remember you with respect.
You remain part of your own spiritual work
The purpose is not to strain, force, or obsess. It is to keep your thoughts, choices, and spiritual focus moving in the same direction as the outcome you asked for, whether your casting is still ahead, happening now, or already complete.
Take a few quiet breaths. Let the immediate panic, anger, or fear soften before you begin. Prayer spoken from steadiness is different from prayer shouted by anxiety.
Speak briefly about what you are asking to improve. You do not need to repeat every painful detail. Name the change you want to see.
Close by giving thanks to Papa Legba, the lwa you honor, your ancestors, God, Spirit, or the sacred presence you recognize in your own practice.
Choose one or two — not all of them
Use the ones that fit where you are in the process. Repeat them to steady yourself and support your intention, not to repeatedly test whether the spell is “working.”
A casting may end; the unfolding continues
Your casting can be completed on a particular date, but the situation itself involves people, choices, circumstances, emotions, timing, and sometimes long-standing obstacles. Those pieces do not always reorganize themselves instantly.
A quiet day does not mean that nothing is happening. Changes can begin internally, indirectly, or through circumstances you cannot yet see.
Go to work. Sleep. Eat. See people. Answer messages thoughtfully. Take practical opportunities when they arise. Spiritual work should support your life, not suspend it.
Checking a phone every five minutes, searching for signs in every coincidence, or repeatedly provoking the situation can increase anxiety and make practical matters harder.
You can return here often, but you do not need to plead from desperation each time. A short sincere prayer, followed by gratitude and release, is enough.
Especially for the hard days
Sometimes the waiting period after spell work is complete is the hardest part of all.
You may have come to us because something in your life feels painful, uncertain, frightening, or completely out of your control. As the days pass, it can be easy to wonder whether anyone understands how deeply this matters to you.
If you have been assigned a caseworker, please write to them when you need guidance, reassurance, or help understanding what is happening with your work.
You do not have to sit alone with every fear or question.
Please write to mycase@spellmaker.com.
We will make sure you are assigned someone who can help you with your case and answer your questions.
Three ways to become quiet, focused, and spiritually present
Choose the video that fits what you need today. There is no need to use all three at once. These are here to help you settle yourself, focus your intention, and spend a little quiet time with the spiritual side of your work.
Use this candle meditation when your thoughts are racing, you feel overwhelmed by your casting, or life in general has become too loud. Sit comfortably and take slow, easy breaths. Let your attention rest on the flame. With each exhale, imagine some of the tension, fear, and anxious energy loosening its hold. With each inhale, make a little more room for steadiness, hope, and the possibility of positive movement.
You do not have to force yourself to feel cheerful or perfectly positive. The purpose is simply to become calmer, more grounded, and less caught in the fear of the moment.
If the video player does not appear, open the manifestation meditation directly. Open video
This meditation is designed to help you move your attention away from the problem and toward the positive outcome you are working for. It can be used with your Spellmaker casting or with another personal goal you are trying to manifest. The video includes visualization prompts and simple instructions to help you form a clear picture of the change you want to welcome into your life.
Before using this one as a meditation, watch it through once. That first viewing lets you become familiar with the sequence. When you return to it later, you can relax into the exercise instead of wondering what instruction comes next.
Use this meditation when you would like to deepen your sense of connection with the lwa. You may approach it generally, allowing yourself simply to become more aware of the Mysteries, or you may hold one particular lwa gently in mind. Let the candlelight, smoke, veves, and imagery give your attention somewhere sacred to rest while you sit with respect, gratitude, and openness.
There is no need to force a vision, message, sign, or unusual experience. Connection can be quiet. Simply make yourself present, greet the lwa respectfully, and allow the time to be what it is.
A quiet place for your eyes and thoughts to rest
When you return to this page, let your eyes rest on the altar for a few moments.
You do not need to force a particular feeling, receive a sign, or make something happen while you sit here. Simply be present.
A simple five-minute practice
You can use this little sequence whenever you feel the need to reconnect with your work.
Take three slow breaths. Let your shoulders relax. You do not have to solve the whole situation in this moment.
Read the opening prayer above or simply ask him respectfully to open the way for your words to be heard.
State your desired improvement in one or two clear sentences. Speak toward the future, not only about what hurt in the past.
Say it slowly three times. Let the words become a correction to fear rather than another demand upon the spell.
Thank the Mysteries and then return to your day. The closing act is release.
When you are ready to explore a little further
This sanctuary is meant to keep you here while you pray, meditate, ground yourself, and remain connected to your own work. When you are finished here, you may wish to continue by spending a little time learning about the lwa.
