Meditation and Focus Exercise Day 2: Who do I want to be?

Hello, welcome to Day Two of our exercise.

Instructions:  Take a few deep breaths and relax yourself. Stare at the picture below with the thought in mind:  "Who do I want to be?"   Spend about 3-5 minutes staring at the picture and asking yourself the same question, "Who do I want to be?" After about 3-5 minutes, write down some of your impressions.  When you are done writing, stare at the picture again and ask yourself the same question, "Who do I want to be?" After about 3-5 minutes, write down your impressions. Repeat the process one more time.  After your final writing down of your impressions (you should have written something down three separate times), close your notebook and do not go back and read your impressions. Get up and get away from your computer for a few minutes, drink some water, or take a short walk.  Come back tomorrow and do Day Three. 🙂

Love,
Mambo Samantha Corfield

This exercise really pushed me. I felt a definite tendency toward sentimentality toward childhood and all it represents. Freedom, imagination, expression, creativity, and no boundaries. When you are a child, the world is your oyster, and it’s all meaningful and significant, and you know you will be too. That’s who I want to be. And unencumbered by meaningless, hard, trivial matters that take up so much time and energy and take away from our time to create and to make a real difference. I want to be a peacemaker. I want to be part of a real shift. I know all of this is possible and I have somehow gotten totally off track and distracted from life’s true purpose.
Thank you for a beautiful exercise.

Wow! We always say “When I grow up, I want to be…” or joke about it as we get older. I know I used to have all these dreams of who I wanted to be when I was younger. I still have those dreams, but in doing this exercise I realize that my dreams have changed with how I have changed. Many people dream of being rich as in possessions when they are young, as did I. I realized I am rich in the family and friends I have and had in life, the love they share with me and I with them, as well as experiences to share and hold in my heart for a long time, the memories of so many wonderful things. So, even though the dreams remain the same, they have changed to better suit my life and all around me. Mambo, thank you for this meditation! I don’t think I would have realized that I have my dreams, fulfilled them in some way, though not what I would have thought or imagined without this help. Thank you!
