  • And so it begins!

    Papa Legba Month – 2011  🙂

    Happy Monday everyone!  A very special day today!  Of course we begin our amazing triple rituals to Papa Legba today AND a very happy birthday to my son, Ira.  :-)  I just don't know how the heck he got to be 39 when I am only 35!  LOL LOL LOL  Seriously, a wonderful day all around.

    I hope you have all sent in your letters to be included in the free rituals.  If not, it is not too late, just visit the Papa Alegba Page and visit the link to send in your letter.

    Now we all know that Papa is there to open doors for us, smooth the path, and in general make things easier. Remember though that you can be quite creative in what you are asking.  Papa is the great interpreter.  He speaks and understands all languages.  A very good petition to him is to make yourself and your intentions understood.  This might be in a love case, but it could be for anything.  Perhaps you are having trouble understanding your teenage children and they you.  Remember Papa works BOTH ways – to help you be understood, but also to help you understand.

    Many times during spell work we forget to ask for ourselves to understand what is happening and why.  Most often we forget to try to understand what role we play or played in what is happening to us!  Without self-awareness most things are doomed to failure.  Ask Papa to help you understand what your role is in whatever situation you find yourself in.  I am not saying that you should assign the "blame" for things onto yourself.  However, we can easily get wrapped up in what we want someone else to do and forget that there are things that we, too, need to do to improve the situation.

    Many times people visualize Papa has their grandfather or trusted uncle or elder male confidante.  I think all of these are wonderful visualizations.  Talk to him!  Have a cup of coffee and a little treat with him (yes, a little treat for you, too!).  Ask him for the awareness that you need to truly see your situation and to understand and be understood.   Most all situations are a two-way street, though we generally tend to get wrapped up in only one way – the way that gets us what we want.  Or so we think!  Learning both sides of the street is a sure path to success.

    How DO you see yourself? 

    Hello everyone?  Besides the unbearable cuteness of the above picture, it does get one to thinking… how do I see myself?  And what is more important to you, how others see you, or how you see yourself? In a world where some struggle to be beautiful, popular, brave, or even just noticed, what brings the most satisfaction; being happy with what you see in the mirror or what others see?

    I don't know if there is an easy answer, but would love to hear from you all about image, not just your physical image, but what do you see when you look in your spiritual mirror?

  • The State of Fear.

    Last week I had the opportunity to speak with an old friend that I had lost touch with. A rather unfortunate memory of this person is that she was always afraid of something!  While I enjoyed catching up with her, I was also sad to find that she was still that fearful person – she was working the same job that she absolutely hates for fear of going to find another one ("not in THIS economy"); she still had very little outside interests ("the world is full of crazy people") and she was still alone ("there are no good men left").

    While Ellie knows what I do for a living, she is not a person prone to do things like spell work or candle work! I wish she was… I would definitely recommend that she try something like some white candle magick or a Milk of Damballah white bath to try to help her remove some of the fear and negativity that she finds herself steeped in!

    So we will call my friend Ellie.  Ellie lives the State of Fear. Everything is riddled with negativity and fear and I began to remember why I had "lost touch."  While Ellie is an extreme case, how many of you out there are living in the State of Fear?  Are you afraid to make new friends, talk to people, put yourself out there, take a chance on… well… anything?

    You know that old saying "nothing ventured, nothing gained?"  It is just as viable today as it ever was.  Even in these tough economic times, even while we are bombarded with news of atrocities throughout the world, there is still goodness, love, and fun to be had out there.  Notice I said OUT THERE.  It isn't coming to your doorstep.  You must go out there and live your life.  If you are afraid of every little thing – the dark, people, new friends,conversations,etc., you are doing yourself a terrible disservice.

    I am not saying it is easy to overcome these fears, but won't you please try?  If you see any of yourself in those paragraphs above, try to master your fears of just one thing!  Are you afraid of people?  Are you sure that all of them are up to no good?  Try just talking to one new person a month – maybe they will be a rat bastard, but maybe they will be a new lifelong friend! Are you afraid of new ventures? Go some place new!  Force yourself if you have to.  I am sure you will find that there wasn't anything scary about it at all. 🙂 You might even enjoy yourself!

    It's a big wide world out there people – if you are just existing in your tiny corner of it, never venturing out of your safe zone, not only are you doing yourself a disservice, you are doing the world a disservice – the rest of us out here might enjoy the pleasure of your company!  🙂

  • GOD AS THE BOOGEY-MAN.

    Hello, my dear readers!  Recently a friend of mine came to me with some issues of spirituality regarding a family member.  This particular family member was having various symptoms which led her to believe that there might be a spiritual component to the symptoms and after discussing it and coming to the conclusion that there were spiritual components, we started to discuss appropriate treatments.

    As I always do in these situations I asked her, "Is Fred more of a God person or more of, oh, say a Universal Energy type person?"  My question was based on the fact that many people, while spiritual, balk at even the word "God."  It has come to mean something unpleasant to them, or unbelieveable, even.

    Over the years I have come to the conclusion that so many adults have turned away from the idea of God because as children God is used as a threat against us.  We are taught to fear rather than revere. So as adults, why would we turn to someone/thing that has been used against us?  God has been used as the boogey-man!  Why would we try to find comfort there?  Many, many people just do not and, instead, if they are left with any spirituality at all, tend to find more comfort in the idea of Cosmic Consciousness, Universal Energy, that kind of thing. While I think that is fine, I feel that many people are missing out on the God Experience.

    I think God has been given a bad rap. Don't be afraid – embrace the idea of something bigger than yourself!  Embrace the idea that "God" can mean whatever you want it to you.  You don't have to follow the God beliefs of someone else. God is so powerful that you can choose to tap into that power in a number of ways.  The God of your childhood is a grown up now, just like you!  So don't be shying away from the God in your Heart, the God Within, or the God Without; the comfort of the God energy is universal, powerful, and free for the taking.  You only need to open up your heart and mind to it!

    Hello, welcome to Day Seven of our exercise.

    Instructions:  Take a few deep breaths and relax yourself. Stare at the picture below with the thought in mind:  "Who loves me?"   Spend about 3-5 minutes staring at the picture and asking yourself the same question, "Who loves me?" After about 3-5 minutes, write down some of your impressions.  When you are done writing, stare at the picture again and ask yourself the same question, "Who loves me?" After about 3-5 minutes, write down your impressions. Repeat the process one more time.  After your final writing down of your impressions (you should have written something down three separate times), close your notebook and do not go back and read your impressions. Get up and get away from your computer for a few minutes, drink some water, or take a short walk.  Come back tomorrow and do Day Eight. 🙂
