  • Who put the work in spell work?

β€œOpportunity is missed by most people because it comes dressed in overalls and looks like work.”

    β€” Thomas Edison

Greetings, everyone!  Hope you are all ready fo a great weekend!  I know we have talked about this before – the work of spellwork!  However, I do think the subject can be revisited over and over again and still be of value!

All too often I hear people say that they think things like our spell kits are "just too much work." It is always a sigh-inducing, eye-rolling moment for me because that statement generally comes from someone who just told me they would do ANYTHING to get Jack (or Jill) back into their lives.  Of course we offer solo castings with most of our spells (where I do the work for you), and that is a fine choice for those who are truly too busy (lots of folks working two jobs these days!)  or do not have the privacy to do spell work.

However, I fear that sometimes people choose the solo casting just because they think doing their own spell work is just too much work!  That is troubling because in the category of "doing anything" to get Jack or Jill back in  your life could involve some work!

It could involve spell work!  It could involve working on yourself.  It could involve working on your relationship, but if you aren't invested enough in the relationship to do some work on it, why do you want that relationship in the first place?  I dont' have the answer to that – but I do think it is something worth thinking about!

And let's not get confused about you good folks who occasionally need a break from spell work or adjunct work!   There are those who just don't want to do another doll session or light another candle… they are just sick of spell work at the moment.

Now that is something different!  Sometimes a little break from spell work is a good thing.  It gives you time to refresh your spirit, look at the spellwork with fresh eyes, and regain your energy.  The best way to take a break from spell work is during the break to assess the break itself; are you feeling good about the break?  Are you feeling that this is a time for you to renew yourself and your purpose? The biggest danger in taking a break sometimes comes in the form of not knowing when the break should be over.

I always tell the folks to whom I recommend a break to be on the look out for signs that their break is over.  If you are longing for your voodoo doll, or you start to miss the comfort and ritual of your candle magick, or you feel an incredible pull back into the work - those kinds of things are clear signs that your break is over!

Lately I have been literally bombarded with stories of clients and the success of their spellwork!  :-)  Needless to say, that is always amazingly awesome to hear!  As I have mentioned before, I do notice a very common thread in these success stories – these are very often folks who were dedicated to that work, had a real heart for it, and stuck to their guns even in the face of adversity.  Their success is inspiring!

So if the spellwork is seeming too much like work, then yes, take a small break, but never take your eye off the prize! πŸ˜‰  If it is worth having, it is worth working for!

  • Oslo, Norway

    Hello everyone,

It has taken me a few days to be able to speak clearly about the tragedy in Oslo, Norway.  My first order of business was to try to check up on our friends and clients that live there.  Thankfully, I believe that we have been able to determine that everyone we know there is fine.  Sadly, of course, not everyone is so lucky to have been personally untouched.

These kinds of events not only leave us sad, angry, and frustrated, but often wondering how one person, looking so normal, can do something so heinous.  It is always a mystery to me when I look into the pictures of these people; why, what, how did you get to be that person?  Of course, there is no easy answer.  Maybe there is no answer, easy or otherwise.

I will not relate the details of his crimes here, but they are chilling right down to the bone.  The crimes involve things that nearly none of us could even stand to see in a fictional setting let alone know that somewhere in the world these acts happened to innocent people.  The feeling is of incredible sadness and yet still laced with wondering how this kind of person gets shaped in life.

When we are faced with the tragedies of natural disasters, we are horrified that nature can be such an awesome force to take anyone and anything down. I have heard reporters say that we are sometimes at war with nature and nature will eventually win.  But when it comes down to one human being causing such death and destruction, where do we look?   Upon whom do we lay blame? Surely we cannot blame Mother Nature here.

There are no easy answers to any of this.  Most of the time we end up just feeling helpless and frustrated, not knowing how to direct our energies to most help.  One way to help is to join with us here at Spellmaker in praying for whatever peace and help can be given to those affected by this tragedy in Norway.  The Spellmaker Prayer Group will be devoting a portion of the prayer meeting on Thursday, July 28 to praying for those victims and families in Norway.  Please join them if you can – even if you cannot join in on the meeting, praying at the same time they meeting is going on will combine our collective energies.

Also, remember, the prayer group takes requests for your prayer needs, too!  Our prayer group offers prayers for all that we know about, it is very easy for you to be included.   Just follow the link above for instructions.

Take care of yourselves and each other!  Have a safe, blessed, and peaceful week.

  • Making Healthy Decisions – Part 4

PLEASE NOTE: Sorry, I accidently got these out of order! So after this will actually come Part 6 since Part 5 was already published. Sorry for the confusion!

Greetings, everyone! As we continue on with our series about making healthy decisions, we move on to our next question to ask ourselves:

    What Am I Not Seeing?

We have a tendency to sometimes protect ourselves in difficult situations by not being willing to seek out what we are not wanting to see about a situation. It is something we all do – we can have a tendency to gloss over the details that are unpleasant to us. Naturally this can lead to some disasters in decision making!

Often, what we're not seeing is what we don't want to see. While it may be difficult, or sometimes even painful, force yourself to look at what you don't want to see. Hiding details from yourself is truly not helping you. Trying to force an objective, dispassionate view of the situation can be tricky and take some practice, but try it! It is very difficult for a human being to try to remove emotion from a decision. Sometimes we can trick ourselves into it by pretending that the situation actually belongs to someone else – what would we tell them that we can see?

Looking at the situation from the outside looking in can often really help us in seeing what we think might not be there! Taking off our blinders and searching for clues might be difficult, however, the end reward is completely worth it!

  • Quote for today – 1/10/10

    Finish each day and be done with it. You have done what you could;
    some
blunders and absurdities have crept in; forget them as soon as

    you can.
Tomorrow is a new day; you shall begin it serenely and with

    too high a
spirit to be encumbered with your old nonsense.

  • How to make a Vooodoo Dream Board!

    Hello!

Some of you wrote me yesterday asking about how to make a dream board. I had read some general guidelines about these, but they were boooooring. So, I took some time, lit a candle, and came up with these ideas of how to make a Voodoo Dream Board! I am still working on mine, and I will post a picture of it in my photo album here as soon as it is done. I would love it if any of you who make a dream board would send me a picture of it! I would love to see what you come up with!

    1. Get your board. This can be whatever works for you. Oak Tag, a cork board, a piece of plywood, or something fancier you might find at a craft store. It is your board πŸ˜‰ Use what suits you.

    2. Get some glue, tape, push pins, whatever you need to stick stuff to your board.

    3. Get a stack of magazines. Spring is coming, and I bet you know some folks who are tossing out some old magazines. Let your friends and family know you are needing some. Get a decent sized stack on various different subjects.

    4. Schedule some special time to go thru the magazines and cut out pictures of things that represent your goals and dreams! Get creative! Play some of your favorite music, make your favorite drink and have fun! You can even invite Papa Legba or any Lwa you feel close to to come by and help you! Light a candle, set out a drink or a cookie for them and ask for their guidance. Make it a team effort πŸ˜‰

    5. If you cant find a picture for a goal you have in mind, try hitting Google Images and see if you can find what you are looking for there. Print the picture and use that on your board.

    6. If you are working with a special Lwa while making the board, you might consider using some background color that corresponds to that Lwa and is pleasing to you. Like, for my board, I was asking for Ogoun and Papa Legba to assist me, so I used some red oak tag/poster board to put my photos on. BUT if I didnt like red, I woul have tried another color πŸ˜‰ White is always good, but use something that YOU like to look at, as it is YOUR board!

6.Fix your pictures to the board in a manner that is pleasing to you. You can do this in the same session or another session if you like. Set some special time aside and really enjoy yourself. Focus on the pictures one by one as you place them on the board. What does this goal mean to you? What does it feel like? How will it make you feel when you realise it?

    7. For an added nice touch, you can draw a Veve of whichever Lwa you asked to be your "Board Buddy" and place it on the board in honor of them and their assistance.

    8. Place the board in a location where you can look at it for 5- 10 minutes twice a day. Near your bedside is a great place, if you can pull that off, as you can look at the board as you go to bed and rise in the morning.

    9. Revise the board as you feel guided too. If you find a new picture that appeals to you and represents a goal of yours, add it. Every few months spend some time really contemplating each picture – evaluate your status towards that goal? Have you made any progress? Is it still something you desire? Has some other desire eclipsed this goal and you now are working towards something else?

    10. Most importantly, make it fun and positive ! Look forward to looking at and working on your  dream board. You will be so glad you did πŸ˜‰

  • Happy New Decade! 2010!

    Happy New Year!

Wishing each and every one of you the happiest of New Years! Below is a poem that MaMere sent me, and it is so splendid (of course!) that I really wanted to pass it along to you.

    A
Wonderful Resolution for the New Year!

What amazing gifts the new year
    brings! An entire

     year's worth of wonderful
    opportunities, given to us

one sunrise at a time. Many
    of the moments ahead will

    be marvelously disguised as
    ordinary days, but each one

of us has the chance to make
    something extraordinary out of them.

Each new day is a blank page
in the diary of your life.

The secret of success is in
    turning that diary into the

    best story you possibly can.
    Have pages on understanding

    and tales of overcoming hardships.
    Fill your story with

    enthusiasm, adventure, learning,
    and laughter. And make

     each chapter reflect time
    doing these things:

    Follow your dreams. Work hard.
    Be kind. Do what you

can to make the door open on
a day that is filled with

    inspiration in some special
    way. Remember: Goodness

    will be rewarded. Smiles will
    pay you back.

    Have fun. Find strength. Be
    truthful. Have faith.

    Don't focus on anything you
    lack.

    Realize that people are the
    treasures in life, and

    happiness is the real wealth.
    Have a diary that describes

    how you're doing your best,
    and…

the rest will take care of itself.
