    Hit a Bump in the Road?

    Have you hit a bump in your spellcasting road? This happens sometimes! Do not fret! This happens from time to time and there are things you can do to get "over" it !  Handyman

    The FIRST thing I think anyone should do when they face a bump or unexpected twist or turn is to assess themselves 😉 We all know that spellwork can be at times emotional for some people, then add to that some unexpected news or event, and well, sometimes we enter the "glass is half empty" frame of mind. Sooooooo — anything you can do to get yourself back in balance before embarking on anything else would be so beneficial to you and your case. As always, consult with your caseworker for what would be most appropriate for your case, but several of the ritual baths — Milk of Damballah, LaSiren Aquamarine Shoals, The Baron’s Bath — might be quite applicable and help you get recharged! Then there is of course some White Candle Magick or if you already have a Cosmic Voodoo Healing Egg, a few sessions on yourself could do the trick.

    Now, once you have yourself in a happier, more balanced place. Always consult your caseworker and keep them updates in the events of your case. The more informed they are, the better they can advise you.  Very often a reading with Mambo Sam is just the ticket to helping you plan your strategy and further raise your spirits.

    Dont let unexpected news or events turn you and your case on their respective ears 😉 Take a deep breath, do something good and kind for yourself, and consult your Spellmaker support system. We are here to help.

    Light and Love,

    Sister Bridget

  • Working on the Spellmaker Information Board

    Hello everyone!  As most of you have probably noticed, we are working on revamping the old forum into our new Spellmaker Information Board

    After much deliberation with my family and staff, there seemed to be a general consensus that keeping the forum, but turning it into much more of an informational type of resource was the way for us to go.   Although my original intention was for the board to represent an uplifting and spiritual community, it just did not seem to serve that function.  Instead, it seemed to me (and the many clients who have written to me) to have begun to serve the function of having a few people who were down in the dumps work hard to drag everyone else down there with them.   The deleterious effect on spell work from that kind of negativity is monumental!

    Additionally, no matter how many different resources I try, nor how much I pay for web board services, there always seems to be a way for hackers to get in and get people’s email addresses.  So again we were faced with certain members getting ugly, threatening, manipulative, and coercive emails.  🙁   For the life of me, I do not know why people insist on doing this, but definitely the phrase "misery loves company" leaps to mind.

    The other problem that I found dramatically disturbing is the amount of bad advice clients give each other!  Some clients who feel that they have a higher understanding of how the products work actually have NO such special knowledge and we have had to spend a great deal of time fixing the problems that occur from clients taking advice from other clients.

    We have superior customer service and clients do not need to advise each other!  In fact, many cases have been set back greatly by listening to, "my friend from the forum."   The reason we have caseworker support, technical support, phone support, and online chat support is so that you can get the correct information, not supposition from the proliferation of "hey I have used a candle magick kit and know everything" clients who give out erroneous information.

    So, for the good of everyone, we will continue to have the forum, but it will be an informational forum.  The great thing about it is that we will continue to add information there and it will be a great resource for those needing information about products, service to Les Lois, New Orleans Voodoo, and much more over time.  It will all be there in one nice compact place and that will be awesome.

    We also will still continue to answer questions that we feel would benefit the Spellmaker community as a whole.  When you visit the board now, please read the first section about how to use the board.  In there it will give you information on where to send your questions that you would like to see the answers to posted on the board.  If we feel that your question is of benefit to the majority, then the question and answer will be posted on the forum.

    I hope you all enjoy the new format and keep on the look out for more information to be posted there.

    Love, Mambo Sam

  • Harvest Moon ~~~ 9-15-08

    One of the more well known or commonly known full moons is the Harvest Moon. It has been the subject of much folk lore, poems, and there is even a famous song! The full harvest moon is the full Moon that occurs closest to the
    autumn equinox. In two years out of three, the Harvest Moon comes in
    September, but in some years it occurs in October. At the peak of
    harvest, farmers can work late into the night by the light of this
    Moon.  Corn, pumpkins, squash, beans, and wild rice, the chief Indian
    staples, are now ready for gathering.

    300pxharvest_moon_2

    Often, the Harvest Moon seems to be bigger or brighter or more colorful
    than other moons. These effects have to do with the seasonal tilt of
    the earth. The warm color of the moon shortly after it rises is an
    optical illusion, based on the fact that when the moon is low in the
    sky, you are looking at it through a greater amount of atmospheric
    particles than when the moon is overhead. The atmosphere scatters the
    bluish component of moonlight (which is really reflected white light
    from the sun), but allows the reddish component of the light to travel
    a straighter path to your eyes. Hence all moons (and stars and planets)
    look reddish when they are low in the sky.

    According to NASA: The Harvest Moon is no ordinary full moon; it behaves in a special way.
            Throughout the year the Moon rises, on average, about 50 minutes later each day. But near the autumnal equinox, which comes this year on Sept. 22nd, the day-to-day difference in the local time of moonrise is only 30 minutes. The Moon will rise around sunset tonight–and not long after sunset for the next few evenings. That comes in handy for northern farmers who are working long days to harvest their crops before autumn. The extra dose of lighting afforded by the full Moon closest to the equinox is what gives the Harvest Moon its name.

    There are many interesting stories and mythologies around this moon.

    The Harvest Moon is also known as the Wine Moon, as this is a time after the grapes have been harvested and wine is made.

    The Chinese Traditional name for this moon is the Chrysanthemum Moon.

    Please check out Mambo Sam’s Blog about the Chinese Harvest Moon Festival  ! It was great fun with Moon Cakes last year!

    The Cherokee call this Nut Moon (because of harvesting some species of nuts from trees….not for the other reason you might be thinking 😉  )

    The Choctaw call this the Mulberry Moon.

    The Celts call this the Singing Moon as after the seasonal harvests are complete comes a time for acceptance,
    mellowing, and rest after labor.
    It has been so named in reference to the festive attitude known to
    every laborer who has toiled to complete work necessary to the survival
    of the community and now celebrates the completion of those labors.

    Under the Harvest Moon
    by Carl Sandburg

    Under the harvest moon,

    When the soft silver

    Drips shimmering
    Over the garden nights,
    Death, the gray mocker,
    Comes and whispers to you
    As a beautiful friend
    Who remembers.

         Under the summer roses
    When the flagrant crimson
    Lurks in the dusk
    Of the wild red leaves,
    Love, with little hands,
    Comes and touches you
    With a thousand memories,
    And asks you
    Beautiful, unanswerable questions.

    The Harvest Moon by Longfellow

    It is the Harvest Moon!  On gilded vanes
      And roofs of villages, on woodland crests
      And their aerial neighborhoods of nests
      Deserted, on the curtained window-panes
    Of rooms where children sleep, on country lanes
      And harvest-fields, its mystic splendor rests!
      Gone are the birds that were our summer guests,
      With the last sheaves return the laboring wains!
    All things are symbols: the external shows
      Of Nature have their image in the mind,
      As flowers and fruits and falling of the leaves;
    The song-birds leave us at the summer’s close,
      Only the empty nests are left behind,
      And pipings of the quail among the sheaves.

    However you choose to celebrate this moon, even if its just with a cup of tea and a few quiet moments in the grass appreciating it’s beauty, Happy Autumn Everyone!

    Much Light and Love,

    Sister Bridget

  • Can’t Wait to See You at the Convention!

    Greetings!  Well, I don’t know about where you live, but here in New Mexico we are experiencing a little bit of Fall weather.  It is much cooler in the evenings and in the mornings there is just something inexplicable that reminds me of the beginnings of Fall mornings.

    Fall is definitely one of my favorite seasons, especially here in New Mexico, and although I have always loved Fall now I have another wonderful reason to love it:  It means our Albuquerque Voodoo Convention is getting near!  🙂

    I am so very excited about the convention this year because it means the return of many old friends from last year and also the meeting of new friends, some coming from far across the world to be with us!  The Convention gives me a chance to teach everyone personally and gives our Voodoo family a chance to participate in giving blessings and consecrations to each person.  This is very rewarding for us as so much of our work is online and by email.  Certainly it is wonderful to meet everyone by email and get to know them, but it is just such an extra treat for us all to be together with you.

    Of course, as most of you already know, we are very thrilled to be able to hold the Fet Ghede ritual with you this year!  I have also just finished putting together a magickal herbal workshop that I feel is going to benefit FOR LIFE all of those who are here to take part.  It is going to give participants a chance to learn and understand how herbal magick works, learn secret herbal combinations and how to use them, and learn how to properly prepare magickal herbs for the best possible result in using them.  I am truly excited to be able to teach this class.

    There will be much, much more to the Convention, obviously, and I will be blogging more about it in upcoming days.

    Love to all, Mambo SamGreenborder

  • Is Depression Ruining Your Case?

    Greetings everyone!  I wanted to talk to you all just a moment about depression.  For many of you who are either doing our love spells or are in the waiting period after having done love spells, depression can often set in.  Sometimes you might be depressed because you have even had to do love spells in the first place!  Sometimes you might be depressed because now that you have done them you aren’t sure when or even IF they will work for you.  Sometimes you might be depressed because the person you have been working your magick on isn’t responding just yet.

    No matter what the reason, though, for sure depression can have a detrimental effect on your love spells!  Now I know for sure that we are all going to be sad sometimes, especially when we are not with the one person we want to be with.  However, too much of that sadness really sends out a negative energy.  I have people writing and telling me that they are "crying day and night" because they are not with the person they have done the love spells on.  While I do feel great compassion for this, I also know that crying day and night is in no way helping to bring the person closer to you. In fact, it may be doing quite the opposite.

    I would like to encourage each and every one of you to please try to do something to uplift your spirits.  And, yes, I know it isn’t easy.  I am not trying to sound cavalier or like everyone should have a Pollyanna mood.  However, I want you to get what you want from your love spell casting!  So I tell you this for your own good:  Too much crying and depression is not good for your case!  I know I have talked about it before, but I think it bears repeating.  If you feel depressed and sad over your case, try to compartmentalize those feelings. Promise yourself an hour a day to be sad, depressed, and even crying if you need to.  Then promise yourself that will be it for that day – you will always have that hour tomorrow to do it all over again.  Once that hour of sadness and crying has gone by, you must promise yourself that you will then do something productive and positive even if it is take a bath and fix your hair a different way!

    Obviously this isn’t always going to work.  Each of us has days that we just can’t seem to shake the blues away from.  But I do urge you to try and see how much better you start to feel after a few days.

    Love to you all!  Mambo Sam

  • The Weight of Words.

    I believe in the weight of words. I believe that form follows words which follow thought and intent. Words carry a power and energy that can change the world. If the flapping of a butterflies wings somewhere across the world can effect the weather in Texas, then imagine the effect the breath that carries our daily words has on our lives and the lives of others?

    “Watch
    your thoughts, for they become words.
    Watch your words, for they become actions.
    Watch your actions, for they become habits.
    Watch your habits, for they become character.
    Watch your character, for it becomes your destiny.”

                                                    ~~~~ Unknown
    Think of your words as a pebble in a pond, their effects rippling out to those around you. Written words can be erased. Spoken words can not.Think of your words as an arrow, that cant be stopped or retrieved. What you say matters, and matters greatly to the Universe.
  • Focused Meditation
    Hello everyone!  Very often clients tell me that they have trouble focusing when doing the "reflection" part of their love spell work.  They find that their mind wanders and they don’t feel that they are focused enough on what they are trying to do.
    The article below by Kathy Glass, M.S. instructs on how to do focused meditation. I have added some notes here and there to illustrate how one might use this to focus on their petitions for spell work.  Additionally, using this exercise just to learn to focus, without involving your spell work at all, will help you when you DO go back to your spell work.
    FOCUSED MEDITATION
    This type of meditation involves focusing on something intently as a way of staying in the present moment and turning off your internal dialogue. Many people find this type of meditation easier to practice than classic meditation where you focus on nothing to quiet your mind. With focused meditation, you can choose to focus on almost anything that involves the senses, including sounds, visual pieces, tactile sensations, tastes and smells, and even the your own breathing! Here’s how:
    Here’s How:
    Choose a target for your focus. The sound of a metronome, the smell of incense, or a pleasing picture are all popular choices.  Get into a comfortable position, and relax your body. Turn your attention to your chosen target, and take in the sensation it provides. Focus on the sound, smell, sight, etc. and simply experience what it has to offer. The idea is not to think about it, but simply to experience it, being fully present in the moment.   Mambo’s Note:  If you are doing spell work and using this exercise to focus on your petition or goal for the spell work, you could use either a picture that represents the successful outcome of your spell work to you.  You could also use the product you are using as the focal point – candle, doll, talisman, etc.  In this way you can allow yourself to relax into the meditation and simply focus on the outcome.  This is not to say that this replaces the rest of what you do in the spell work, but is a way to help you focus on the outcome.
    1. If your internal voice starts to analyze it, or begins to rehash stressful situations of the day, worry about the future, make a list for grocery shopping, or anything else, gently turn your attention back to your chosen target and the sensation it provides. Let your mind stay quiet and clear.
    2. If you find your mind engaging you and realize that you’re not being fully present with the sensations of your chosen target, don’t let your inner perfectionist beat you up for ‘doing it wrong’; simply congratulate yourself for noticing, and return back to the present moment and the sensations it has to offer.
    3. That’s it. It may sound a little strange or difficult to understand as you’re reading this, but as you practice this type of meditation, it will become easier and make more sense. The more you practice, the more benefits you will experience. Enjoy!
    Tips:
    1. Give it time. Meditation often takes practice. If you’re expecting to do it ‘perfectly’, you may actually create more stress for yourself than you relieve, and you won’t want to stick with it.
    2. Start with shorter sessions—like five minutes—and work your way up to longer sessions—like 30. With practice, this type of meditation becomes easier and more effective.
    3. If the experience is frustrating for you and you don’t really want to continue, you may find more success with other types of meditation.
    What You Need:
    • Some quiet, private time.
    • Comfortable clothes.
    • A willing attitude and an open mind.
    End of Article
    Focusing on a goal, petition, or reflection during spell work is often the biggest challenge that my clients have to overcome.  Doing this exercise will definitely help you if lack of focus is a challenge that you have.
    Love, Mambo
