  • We’ll miss you, Clarence!

As many of you have heard by now, Saxaphone Great Clarence Clemons passes away over the weekend from complications of a stroke. As one who grew up listening to Clarence, I know I will miss his music and his philosphy greatly. He was wonderfully talented and I know his music will live on for years and years to come. We will miss you, Big Man!

"In the mental calmness of a spiritual life, I have found that the answers to the whys in our lives are able to come to you. In my music I find the same thing."
"It's a matter of choosing what is most important to you and putting that first. Once you have recognized your true purpose in life, this becomes much easier. "

You're a Friend of Mine by Clarence Clemmons

    Striking out?
    Well count me in
I'm gonna stand right by your side through thick or thin
    Ain't no doubt
    Gonna win
A walk through hell ain't bad compared to where we've been

Oh you can depend on me
Over and over… over and over
Know that I intend to be
The one who who always makes you laugh until you cry
And you can call on me until the day you die

    Years may come and go
    Here's one thing I know
    All my life
    You're a friend of mine

    That argument I can't forget
We fought so hard I don't think I've recovered yet
    The girls we knew
    Who thought you were cool
I never introduced my favorite ones to you

Oh you can depend on me
Over and over… over and over
Know that I intend to be
The one who who always makes you laugh until you cry
And you can call on me until the day you die

    Years may come and go
    Here's one thing I know
    All my life
    You're a friend of mine

Oh you can depend on me
Over and over… over and over
Know that I intend to be
The one who who always makes you laugh until you cry
And you can call on me until the day you die

    Years may come and go
    Here's one thing I know
    All my life
    You're a friend of mine

Oh you can depend on me
    I'll be fine
cause you're a friend of mine
    yeeaah
    I'll be fine
cause you're a friend of mine

  • Quote for today…..

"When you wake up in the morning, Pooh," said Piglet at last, "what's the first thing you say to yourself?"

"What's for breakfast?" said Pooh. "What do you say, Piglet?"

"I say, I wonder what's going to happen exciting today?" said Piglet.

Pooh nodded thoughtfully. "It's the same thing," he said.

    Have an exciting day!

  • At the Crossroads…..

    Hi there-

I found this lovely poem the otherday by happenstance (um….NOT!) and read it during a ritual to Papa Legba.  It felt really good when I read it, and I believe I will be using it again. I wanted to share it with you, incase it appeals to you as well. To me, this poem really grabs the heart of what Lebga is about- showing us the way to success and happiness πŸ˜‰

At the Crossroads  ~~by Sadie Tiller Crawley

He stood at the crossroads all alone,
    The sunlight in his face;
He had no thought for an evil course,
He was set for a manly race.
But the road stretched east and the
    road stretched west,
And he did not know which road
    was the best;
So he took the wrong road and it lead
    him down,
And he lost the race and the
    victor's crown.
He was caught at last in an
    angry snare
Because no one stood at the
    crossroads there
To show him the better road.
Another day at the self-same place
    A boy with high hopes stood;
He, too, was set for a manly race
He was seeking the things that
    were good.
And one was there who the roads
    did know,
And that one showed him the
    way to go;
So he turned away from the road
    leading down,
And he won the race and the
    victor's crown;
He walks today on the highways fair
    Because one stood at the
    crossroads there
To show him a better road.

  • Quote for today…..

"When the wind blows hard on a tree, the roots stretch and grow the stronger. Let it be so with us. Let us not be weaklings, yielding to every wind that blows, but strong in spirit to resist."

  • Easy Macaroons!

These are the easiest cookies I have ever made! And they are chock full of coconut for Papa! They were surely a hit at my house πŸ˜‰ If you get to feeling ambitious, you can drizzle a little melted chocolate on top!

2 (8 oz.) pkgs. flaked coconut
1 (14 oz.) can sweetened condensed milk
    2 tsp. vanilla

Mix all ingredients together and drop onto greased cookie sheet. Bake 10 to 12 minutes at 350 degrees. Let cookies set before removing from cookie sheet.

    Enjoy!

  • Magickal Garage Sale!

    Hi there!

I had the coolest thing happen to me today, and I just have to share πŸ™‚ I never, ever stop at garage sales. I always feel like I should be the one having a garage sale, not shopping at one. Anyhow, I was driving by one today, and I got the urge to stop. It was the middle of the work day, and I was pressed for time as usual, but I turned the car around and went back. I found a parking space right in front of the house. I got out and looked around, not sure exactly what I was doing there. Then I spotted it! A statue of Nino de Atocha! I was shocked to say the least….I have been looking for a statue that spoke to me for a while now, and this little fella was calling out loud and clear. I brought the statue home, cleaned it up a bit, and put it right on Legba's altar I have set up for this month's rituals.  I am so happy I listened to that little voice and stopped at that sale.

    Prayer to El Santo Nino

    O Miraculous Infant of Atocha!

Cast Thy merciful look upon my troubled heart, so inclined to pity. Be softened by my prayer, and grant me these favors which I ardently implore of Thee (Mention requests).

Take from me all affliction and despair, all trials and misfortunes with which I am laden. For Thy Sacred Infancy’s sake, send me now the consolation and aid and grace that I may praise Thee with the Father and Holy Ghost, forever and ever.Amen

O Divine Child of Atocha, hear my prayer and grant my petition.

  • Easy Coconut Cake!

    Hey there!

I just tried this recipe out and it is easy AND yummy! I am going to make one for the Papa Legba ritual coming up. For a slightly different look and flavor, toast the coconut!

    1 white cake mix
1 can Eagle Brand condensed milk
    1 can cream of coconut
    1 lg. container Cool Whip
    12 oz. pkg. coconut, flaked
Bake white cake according to box instructions. Punch holes in cake with straw or small round object, about 1 inch apart. Pour cream of coconut and then milk over holes. Top with Cool Whip and coconut on top.

    Enjoy!
