  • Meditation and Focus Exercise Day 5: What do I want?

Hello, welcome to Day Five of our exercise.

Instructions:  Take a few deep breaths and relax yourself. Stare at the picture below with the thought in mind:  "What do I want?"   Spend about 3-5 minutes staring at the picture and asking yourself the same question, "What do I want?" After about 3-5 minutes, write down some of your impressions.  When you are done writing, stare at the picture again and ask yourself the same question, "What do I want?" After about 3-5 minutes, write down your impressions. Repeat the process one more time.  After your final writing down of your impressions (you should have written something down three separate times), close your notebook and do not go back and read your impressions. Get up and get away from your computer for a few minutes, drink some water, or take a short walk.  Come back tomorrow and do Day Six. šŸ™‚

  • Poem: Destiny is Calling

Although I am not necessarily one to read or quote a lot of poetry, I thought that this poem could make a lot of sense for some of you.  It is not easy to keep going sometimes, or even to try again if you feel you failed at something.  So, I liked this poem for all of you who feel like you got knocked out and are down for the count!  Get back up.  Try again.  Male or female, we all get knocked out once in awhile! The poem was only credited to someone going by the name of "manlypoetryman" – so that is the best I can do to give credit to the author.

    Love, Parran Matt

    Destiny is Calling…

Finding Myself at the Place Where:

Destiny is calling…and I will answer it one more time…

Re-Inspire my desire…This time I will put it all on the line…

With Determination…the highest priority on my mind…

Wishful thinking takes over…I will punch my way out of a bind.

Driven by my deepest fiber from within…

    I will step back into ā€œthe Ringā€ once again…

    This time…It will not be over…until I say when…

And go toe to toe with my opposition…a desire of all men.

When a man is given the Opportunity and inspired by Courage…

Getting back into the fight as an older man…becomes a rite of passage…

As with wine…the years behind it…help improve its’ vintage…

Prepared for the task at hand…I’m ready to start a rampage.

Every man has to do what he has to do…That’s true…

Of stamina and endurance…I’m here to tell you…

Better not throw in the towel…until I am through…

I will not leave until I do what I have come here to do.

Overcoming this challenge…shall be my legacy…

At the Summit’s top…I will be what I must be…

After taking all that life has dished out at me…

Then you will ultimately see…That I will have the victory.

So after struggling…and after so long of not feeling complete…

Something or Someone will pay for every time I was beat…

Invincible …I was not down for the count in total defeat…

Don’t ever count me out…At the place where destiny and determination meet.

Poem was Inspired by George Foreman's real life. He became the oldest man ever to win a Major Heavyweight Title. He knocked out a 26-year-old Michael Moorer in the 10th round on November 5, 1994. He was 45 years old.(Wikipedia.org)

  • Meditation and Focus Exercise Day 1: Who am I?

Hello, welcome to Day One of our exercise.

FOR ALL DAYS OF THE EXERCISES:  Don't self edit!  Just let your thoughts flow.  Don't worry about punctuation, spelling, etc.  You might find yourself doodling pictures instead of writing words.  There is no wrong "answer" to the questions that will be asked. Don't limit yourself in these exercises. This is about setting your mind and will free.  Don't over think the process – just let it flow. Most of us block our own success. Don't block your mind and spirit in these exercises. This is all about the freedom to succeed in all things.  Please feel free to share your experiences each day in the "comments" section below the post.

Instructions:  Take a few deep breaths and relax yourself. Stare at the picture below with the thought in mind:  "Who am I?"   Spend about 3-5 minutes staring at the picture and asking yourself the same question, "Who am I?" • 9-Day Meditation and Goal Focus Exercise

    Hello everyone!
Here at Spellmaker we are always concerned with everyone's goals! What do you want? Why did you come to us? How can we help you get what you want?

Over the years I have noticed that the busier we all get, the less time we have to truly focus on our goals. So many times I will have people tell me that they will do "anything" to get the person they love, and yet balk at the idea of having to spend 45 minutes a day doing that "anything." šŸ˜‰ It isn't their fault entirely, though! We live in a world where we are forced to produce, get ahead, be on top of everything, etc. However, there is a problem with that: The very goals we are trying to achieve often elude us because we are so busy and so rushed to "get ahead" that we forget that those goals need our focus and attention! We end up frustrated, flustered, and feeling a lack of direction – and we see our goals slipping away from us.

Therefore, starting tomorrow, I will publish a nine-day set of meditative and focal exercises that I structured to help you achieve your dreams and goals. For some, it may raise more questions than it answers! However, if you will stick to these exercises for nine days in a row, you will begin to see the benefit! Remember, the answers to ALL that you want to know are inside of you. You are the expert on you! Sometimes you just need a little help to remember that.

No worries if you can't do the nine days in a row right now. This blog will have these exercises on it for as long as it exists, and I expect that to be a very long time. šŸ˜‰

What you will need for these exercises: About 15 minutes alone time (more if you can). A notebook that you can keep and refer to. You may want to do these exercises many times over your lifetime. If you can keep a notebook and refer back to it, you will see how you grow, change, and achieve! Something to write with. That's about it! Pretty simple.

I look forward to your progress.

  • A Girl Named Berkeley….

answered a newspaper ad that I put in our local "alternative" paper about five years ago.  I don't remember the ad exactly, but it read something to the effect of "Voodoo Priestness needs assistant.  If you object to Voodoo, please don't bother applying."  Now let me digress a moment, the reason it was worded like that was because a few years prior to that I had  put out an ad and didn't mention the type of business.  Many hang up calls later, I told myself I would be VERY clear next time I needed to put an ad for help in the paper.

Anyway, a girl named Berkeley called for an interview.  I told her to come right in and talk to me.  She did.  I didn't talk to anyone else even though I had about another 25 calls (people seemed to like the ad!).  I loved her at first sight, Matt and I hired her, and the rest is history. She became our office manager, your go-to girl, and all around the best darned assistant any Voodoo priestess has ever had.

However, the time has come for Berkeley to move on from us onto bigger (but certainly not better because what could be better than being with US?!) and different things.  She is graduating from the University of New Mexico and has been accepted into the Master's Program.  She has been offered a great job at the University that will go hand-in-hand with her studies in her Master's Program. While we were not ready for her to go yet (although we knew she would have to eventually), this opportunity was really too good for her to pass up.

We are not saying goodbye to her; she is our friend, our family, and will be around.  I am sure she will be blogging about all her new adventures as soon as she has a chance.  She is greatly missed at the office and while I hate the end of this era, I am excited for her new and wonderful future.  I know she is going to excel and be a rock star at her new endeavors.

For now, we will not replace her (not that she could be replaced!), and Parran Matt will be answering your calls and emails.  So please be patient with us, we are finding our way around without our right-hand gal and it might take us a minute longer to get to your requests than usual.  But rest assured we are there for you and are working as hard as we can to keep up the level of service you have been receiving.

In closing, I just want to say THANK YOU, BERKELEY!  You have been a treasure and a pleasure and I am proud to call you friend and family.   I am really glad you answered this Voodoo Priestess's ad!

    Love,  Mambo Sam

  • Novitiate Invitations Have Been Sent!

    Greetings, everyone!

As some of you already know, invitations to become a Novitiate in the Spellmaker Novitiate program have been sent out.

The Novitiate program is a program here at Spellmaker wherein we begin to teach those who are serious about eventually becoming an Initiated Priest or Priestess within our family line of New Orleans Voodoo.

I am little concerned that some of you may not have received your intended invitation due to email glitches and computer gremlins. If you feel that you should have received an invitation (especially if we have talked about it before) and you have NOT received it, please write to us at office@spellmaker.com and let us know so that we can check. There is a good chance that if you were expecting to receive it and did not that it is lost in the land of the who-know-where-the-heck-the-email-goes.

Also, because we thoroughly believe that people are led to us through many different ways, if you are reading this and didn’t know about the Novitiate program and are interested, you, too, can write to us and let us know so that we can consider you!

It might be important to know exactly what a Novitiate is and what is expected and what is to be gained. So briefly…

To become a Novitiate with our Family means that you are working towards becoming an initiated family member like Sister Candelaria and Sister Bridget.

The Novitiate program takes at least three years, perhaps more, as each individual progresses on their own. There is no charge for the Novitiate program, but each Novitiate is expected to do some sort of service to the house. It is not meant to be a burden on anyone to be a Novitiate, so service will vary from person to person to include their abilities, available time, etc.

Of course, it is completely confidential. There are rules and regulations and it can be a strict program at some points, however, we think that it is worth it to those who feel the calling to nuture and grow their own spiritual abilities and perhaps eventually help others.

So if you feel like you should have gotten an invitation and didn’t, please let us know. If you are just hearing about this and feel like perhaps it is something for you, please let us know that, too, so that we may consider you for inclusion! But you need to let us know as soon as possible as we are eager to get this year’s Novitiates started! šŸ™‚

  • Good Friday in New Mexico

Hello everyone! I know many of you have heard me speak of the church here in New Mexico, Santuario de Chimayo. This little church, built in the 1800’s, sits high in the New Mexico mountains and has been nicknamed “the Lourdes of America” due to the many documented healings that have taken place there.

There is a tradition here of the faithful walking up the mountain to the Santuario from as far as 100 miles away! This happens every Good Friday here in New Mexico with different families along the route of the pilgrimage opening their homes to the faithful who walk. There are also re-enactments of different religious events and lots of volunteers to help those who walk.

I found an article with pictures that I thought you all might enjoy:

    Please enjoy!
