Turn your lights out for one hour on March 29th from 8-9pm.<\/p>\n


\nEarth Hour: March 29, 2008
\n8 – 9 PM<\/strong><\/p>\n

– Cities
\naround the world will join together in literally turning off the lights
\nfor one hour to offer leadership and symbolize their commitment to
\nfinding climate change solutions.
– Lights will be turned off at iconic buildings and national landmarks from 8 p.m. to 9 p.m.
\n
– Local businesses and restaurants will also be asked to turn off their lights.
\n

\nPeople at home can take advantage of the hour by replacing their
\nstandard light bulbs with energy-efficient compact fluorescent bulbs.<\/p>\n

  • You don’t have to sit alone in the dark.<\/strong>
    \nTalking about protecting the planet for future generations can make for
    \na very pleasant evening. Couple your conversation with some organic
    \nchocolate (dark, of course!) and make Earth Hour a night to remember.<\/span><\/li>\n
  • Earth Hour is on a Saturday night.<\/strong>
    \nIf the weather’s good, try a picnic under the stars. Ask your favorite
    \nrestaurant or bar to dim their lights and participate in Earth Hour.
    \nAnd if you’ll be at work, take a look at our tips for businesses and
    \nrestaurants.<\/span><\/li>\n
  • Plan a get-dark party for Earth Hour.<\/strong>
    \nThe younger crowd can host a slumber party complete with scary stories,
    \nhold an acoustical jam session or bring friends together to do some
    \ndancing in the dark. Don’t worry about decorations–it will be dark!<\/span><\/li>\n
  • Check in with a local astronomy club about star gazing events.<\/strong> The night sky provides its own light show–and here’s your chance to take a break and soak up the view.<\/span><\/li>\n
  • You can still text in the dark.<\/strong>
    \nMake a list of all the ways you are going to reduce your energy
    \nconsumption: unplug unused appliances; change to compact fluorescent
    \nbulbs; properly inflate tires; adjust your thermostat. Text your list
    \nto others and challenge them to make their own lists. Check other lists
    \nfor ideas you may have forgotten.<\/span><\/li>\n
