    🍂 Good Magick for the Fall Season

    Fall has always felt like magick in motion, hasn’t it? The air gets crisp, the leaves start turning, and something in our spirit shifts right along with the season. This is the time of year when many different magickal cultures lean into the energy of harvest, gratitude, and the nearness of our beloved ancestors. Let’s take a look at some beautiful ways people honor this season — and some simple magick you can do right at home.

    🍎 Harvest Blessings

    In Pagan and Wiccan traditions, the autumn equinox — called Mabon — is a time of balance and thanksgiving. Feasts, baskets of apples and corn, and bread baked with love all become offerings to the earth.

    Your turn: Write down the blessings you’ve “harvested” this year — maybe a goal reached, a relationship strengthened, or even a hard lesson learned. Light an orange candle, read your list aloud in gratitude, and then let the flame consume the paper, sending your thanks out into the universe.

    🕯 Honoring Our Ancestors

    In Vodou, November brings Fèt Gede, a joyful honoring of the spirits of the dead with music, candles, and offerings. In Mexico, families celebrate Día de los Muertos with marigolds, altars, and the foods their loved ones enjoyed. Both remind us that our ancestors still walk with us.

    Your turn: Create a tiny ancestor altar. A candle, a flower, a photo, maybe even their favorite candy bar — it doesn’t have to be fancy. Whisper their names with love and thank them for being part of your life.

    🌿 Autumn Herbs and Kitchen Magick

    The fall harvest gives us herbs and foods that carry natural warmth and protection. Apples reveal a secret star when cut, cinnamon stirs up energy, and pumpkins guard the home from unwanted spirits.

    Your turn: Make yourself a little autumn potion — apple slices, cinnamon, and ginger in hot water. Sip slowly while imagining a protective golden glow wrapping around you and your home.

    🔮 Listening Through the Veil

    As the nights grow longer, the veil between our world and the spirit world feels thinner. This is why so many people turn to divination in the fall — tarot, pendulums, dreams, or scrying. It’s a season of guidance and wisdom.

    Your turn: Light a single black candle before bed and ask your guides to bring clarity in your dreams. Keep a notebook nearby — those midnight messages can slip away quickly.

    🔥 Firelight and Release

    The Celtic festival of Samhain is marked by fire — bonfires that offered protection and honored the turning of the year. Fire carries energy of transformation across cultures.

    Your turn: If you can do so safely, light a small outdoor fire or candle. Write down what you’re ready to let go of before winter — fears, frustrations, or habits that no longer serve you. Release them into the flames and feel yourself growing lighter.

    🍂 Wrapping It Up

    Fall is a season of gratitude, remembrance, and quiet preparation. Whether you’re honoring ancestors, stirring up some kitchen magick, or simply watching the leaves fall, you’re participating in the timeless rhythm of the season.

    So bundle up, light a candle, and let your autumn magick shine.

  • New Orleans Red Witch Candle

    Hi!

    I am taking today to say a few words here about one of my FAVORITE candles – The New Orleans Red Witch!

    A little background first.

    The New Orleans Red Witch love candle is something that is used to acquire either new love or help rekindle an old love. It is a milder candle that is based on what was once known as "crimson witch magick." The Crimson Witch was supposedly once a real person (early 1800's) who did witchcraft to save marriages, get those girls or guys
    who had no real prospects a relationship, etc. She was purported to be a kind old lady interested in bringing happiness to others. Interestingly enough, the legend goes that she never married having lost her own true love to some kind of accident.

    This candle can be used for a variety of things. For a new case, a case in progress, any love situation where you want to lend a slightly softer, loving energy too. Not a power or control candle (along the lines of the Famous Red Mummy) the feelings from this candle are softer and  sweeter. Use the candle with one of your Gris Gris bags from any of the love spells. After beginning your session, chant a bit with your Gris Gris bag, then chat a bit or concentrate on what you are hoping to achieve.

    This candle is a lunker! A bit bigger and heavier than the Famous Red Mummy candle. What does that mean? It means you can get MANY MANY sessions from just one candle. The Red Witch candle does come in a three pack for Mind Body Spirit, just like all our other candles. The three pack includes a bigger bottle of oil, bigger bag of herbs, a bag of 30 cones of incense and an incense burner! A three pack of Red Witches can keep you in good stead to do alot of candlework and send alot of sweet energy to your case for a long time 🙂

    You can see the Red Witch here at www.spellmaker.com/witch.htm

    Tell her I said HI!

  • Today’s Magickal Music

    Happy Friday!!!  :-)  I hope you are planning a wonderful weekend!

    Our first magickal music musing was about Heart's "Magic Man."  Thanks to those of you who posted some replies and thoughts about who/what the sound reminded you of magickally!  Everyone's ideas were right on! There is, of course, no right or wrong answer – the right answer is the one that is right for you.

    For me personally that song always reminds me of Papa Legba because  to me he IS the magic man… for without him, no magic gets done!  I also like the little implication of the trickster, but in a good way – like he mesmerizes you and you love it!  ;-)  However, certainly the thoughts of other male lwa easily come to mind – Ogoun, the Baron (also with his slick, sexy ways), etc.  So good answers one and all!

    Today's song for discussion is "Magic Carpet Ride" by Steppenwolf!  I had a lot of fun putting my thoughts together on this one regarding what and whom this song brought to mind for me!  I will share them after I hear from all of you!  Can't wait to hear what lwa, product, or spell this brings to your mind! 🙂

    Lyrics:

    I like to dream yes, yes, right between my sound machine
    On a cloud of sound I drift in the night
    Any place it goes is right
    Goes far, flies near, to the stars away from here

    Well, you don't know what we can find
    Why don't you come with me little girl
    On a magic carpet ride
    You don't know what we can see
    Why don't you tell your dreams to me
    Fantasy will set you free
    Close your eyes girl, look inside girl
    Let the sound take you away

    Last night I held Aladdin's lamp
    And so I wished that I could stay
    Before the thing could answer me
    Someone came and took the lamp away
    I looked around, a lousy candle's all I found

    Well, you don't know what we can find
    Why don't you come with me little girl
    On a magic carpet ride
    Well, you don't know what we can see
    Why don't you tell your dreams to me
    Fantasy will set you free
    Close your eyes girl, look inside girl
    Let the sound take you away

    Don't know what we can find
    Why don't you come with me little girl
    On a magic carpet ride
    You don't know what we can see
    Why don't you tell your dreams to me
    Fantasy will set you free
    Close your eyes girl, look inside girl
    Let the sound take you away

  • St. Francis of Assisi October 4 ~~~ Blessing of the Animals

    Today, October 4th, is a day across the world where people take their pets to be blessed.

    For single householders, a pet can be a true companion. Many people arrive home from work to find a furry friend overjoyed at their return. Many a senior has a lap filled with a purring fellow creature.

    The bond between person and pet is like no other relationship, because the communication between fellow creatures is at its most basic. Eye-to-eye, a man and his dog, or a woman and her cat, are two creatures of love.

    October 4th is the anniverary of the death of St Francis of Assisi. And on this day, he is remembered by many members of his order by accepting animals into their church to be blessed.

    Click here to find a pet blessing happening in your area.

    If you cant find a place in your neighborhood, you can use one of these prayers below to bless your pet yourself 😉 Dont forget, Mambo Sam has blessed her own holy water that you can use with your pet blessing, or also some Samantha's Spiritual Annointing oil would be good as well.

    Also, please feel free to send in a prayer request for your pet to my personal prayer list for pets. Email your request to prayforpets@spellmaker.com

    Love,

    Sister Bridget

    Here are some prayers for all animals:

    Blessed are you, Lord God,
    maker of all living creatures.
    On the fifth and sixth days of creation,
    you called forth fish in the sea,
    birds in the air and animals on the land.
    You inspired St. Francis to call all animals
    his brothers and sisters.
    We ask you to bless this animal.
    By the power of your love,
    enable it to live according to your plan.
    May we always praise you
    for all your beauty in creation.
    Blessed are you, Lord our God, in all your creatures! Amen.

    For a sick animal:

    Heavenly Father,
    you created all things for your glory
    and made us stewards of this creature.
    If it is your will, restore it to health and strength.
    Blessed are you, Lord God,
    and holy is your name for ever and ever. Amen.

  • Poem for today…..

    "Possibility"
    by Ralph Masrton

    "In the seed, there is a forest waiting to grow.
    On the artist's canvas, a masterpiece is waiting to be painted.
    In the engineer's workstation,
    a technical breakthrough is waiting to be developed.
    Everywhere there is possibility.
    Every moment of every life is filled with possibilities,
    and the next moment as well.
    Every problem has a possible solution.
    Every goal has a possibility of achievement.
    Right now, right this moment,
    your life has possibilities that you never even considered.
    Possibilities you can follow to overcome the challenges you face.
    Possibilities that can bring joy and fulfilment.
    There is a pathway leading to wherever you want to go.
    All you need to do is find it and start the journey.
    Today does not have to be like yesterday.
    There are plenty of other possibilities.
    Consider your possibilities. Follow your possibilities.
    Open yourself to what could be, and make it so."

  • Is it okay if I…..

    missed a day of my spell work, forgot to light the incense three days in a row, didn't do the reflection part of the spell, and, oh, didn't bother with the sand trail?  Is it okay, Mambo?  Will this mess up my spell work?

    Greetings everyone!

    Hardly a day goes by that I don't get someone asking me something "messing up" their spell work because of things they did or didn't do.  Mostly it is after the fact and often is phrased as, "Is it okay that I……?"

    Frankly, no, not really, it isn't okay.  For sure things happen sometimes that we cannot control.  However, a lot of what I hear that people did was completely avoidable.  First off, READ the spell kit instructions.  Getting four days into the spell work and figuring out that you forgot a step is really avoidable.  Read the spell kit instructions; read them before you ever start the spell and get your questions answered.  Then, use the instructions.  I don't see how people miss steps when the instructions are clearly meant to be used. You don't have to memorize anything – you follow along the book.

    Life can be hectic and get in the way of our spell work!  No one knows that better than me!  Like I said, sometimes it is totally unavoidable to miss parts of spell work, emergencies happen, etc. Truthfully, though, about 95% of the things that people do to mess up their spell work is avoidable.  Be careful and thoughtful about what you are doing.  If you truly, in your heart of hearts, want what you say you want from the spell work, then you should be extremely careful and dedicated to what you are doing.

    You have to ask yourself, if I don't care enough to do this spell work right, do I truly want what I think I want? If you feel like the spell is too much work, or too hard to do, or takes too much of your time – do you absolutely, truly want what you think you want?   As most of you know, we do, of course, offer solo castings for those folks who cannot do their own spell work for one reason or another.  That is fine!  But even at that, we send you a Holy Relic card to work with and I cannot believe the number of people who tell me they never used it and, "is that okay?"  NO. It's not okay.  You are sending out a very mixed message to Les Lois, God, and even me about what you want!

    A large part of the success of spell work depends on YOU; what do you want, why do you want it, and do you really want it?  What energy are you putting out there?  Please think about that the next time you pick up your work to do it.  If you think your spell work or adjunct work is a pain in your butt and you dread doing it, you should give some serious thought to the goal you think you want.

    Have a great weekend, everyone!

    Love, light, and peace,
    Mambo Samantha Corfield

  • How to make a Vooodoo Dream Board!

    Hello!

    Some of you wrote me yesterday asking about how to make a dream board. I had read some general guidelines about these, but they were boooooring. So, I took some time, lit a candle, and came up with these ideas of how to make a Voodoo Dream Board! I am still working on mine, and I will post a picture of it in my photo album here as soon as it is done. I would love it if any of you who make a dream board would send me a picture of it! I would love to see what you come up with!

    1. Get your board. This can be whatever works for you. Oak Tag, a cork board, a piece of plywood, or something fancier you might find at a craft store. It is your board 😉 Use what suits you.

    2. Get some glue, tape, push pins, whatever you need to stick stuff to your board.

    3. Get a stack of magazines. Spring is coming, and I bet you know some folks who are tossing out some old magazines. Let your friends and family know you are needing some. Get a decent sized stack on various different subjects.

    4. Schedule some special time to go thru the magazines and cut out pictures of things that represent your goals and dreams! Get creative! Play some of your favorite music, make your favorite drink and have fun! You can even invite Papa Legba or any Lwa you feel close to to come by and help you! Light a candle, set out a drink or a cookie for them and ask for their guidance. Make it a team effort 😉

    5. If you cant find a picture for a goal you have in mind, try hitting Google Images and see if you can find what you are looking for there. Print the picture and use that on your board.

    6. If you are working with a special Lwa while making the board, you might consider using some background color that corresponds to that Lwa and is pleasing to you. Like, for my board, I was asking for Ogoun and Papa Legba to assist me, so I used some red oak tag/poster board to put my photos on. BUT if I didnt like red, I woul have tried another color 😉 White is always good, but use something that YOU like to look at, as it is YOUR board!

    6.Fix your pictures to the board in a manner that is pleasing to you. You can do this in the same session or another session if you like. Set some special time aside and really enjoy yourself. Focus on the pictures one by one as you place them on the board. What does this goal mean to you? What does it feel like? How will it make you feel when you realise it?

    7. For an added nice touch, you can draw a Veve of whichever Lwa you asked to be your "Board Buddy" and place it on the board in honor of them and their assistance.

    8. Place the board in a location where you can look at it for 5- 10 minutes twice a day. Near your bedside is a great place, if you can pull that off, as you can look at the board as you go to bed and rise in the morning.

    9. Revise the board as you feel guided too. If you find a new picture that appeals to you and represents a goal of yours, add it. Every few months spend some time really contemplating each picture – evaluate your status towards that goal? Have you made any progress? Is it still something you desire? Has some other desire eclipsed this goal and you now are working towards something else?

    10. Most importantly, make it fun and positive ! Look forward to looking at and working on your  dream board. You will be so glad you did 😉

  • New Decade Resolutions!

    Welcome to a new decade! 2010!

    I was thinking back yesterday about the turn of the century – the whole year 2000, Y2K thing, and all of the talk that went along with that. It was easy for me to remember where I was, what I was doing, who I was working for, where I lived, all of that. What I couldnt remember was what goals I had for myself.What thought had I put into the coming decade? Where did I want to go? Where would I want to be living? What would I like my life to be like when the next new decade began?

    So, this time around, I am going to do things differently. I am making New Decade Resolutions!

    Thinking in a ten year time frame really makes you look at long term goals, and gives you time to assess the intermediate steps to reaching your goal. It takes the focus off the day to day comings and goings and occasional setbacks we might have. It certainly is easier to look at a bump in the road and feel less pressured about it  when you are looking at a 10 year time frame than one of months!

    Yes, times are tough right now, economically, politically, etc. BUT now is also the TIME TO DREAM! Take a pad and pen and write out or sketch what you want your life to be like in 2020! It is NOT THAT FAR OFF! Where do you want to be living in 2020? What would you like your home to be like? Your friends? Your family? What kind of job do you wish to have? What kind of people do you wish to work for? What kind of vacations will you be taking? What do you want your body to look like? Who do you want to be sharing your life with?

    "To accomplish great things, we must not only act, but also dream; not only plan, but also believe."

    ~~~Anatole France
    Review your personal mission statement.  See how it is reflected in your sketch above. Construct a Dream Board to reflect the goals that you have set for yourself. Be proactive, make it fun! Dare to Dream!
  • Happy New Decade! 2010!
    Happy New Year!
    Wishing each and every one of you the happiest of New Years! Below is a poem that MaMere sent me, and it is so splendid (of course!) that I really wanted to pass it along to you.
    Light and Love
    Sister Bridget
    A
    Wonderful Resolution for the New Year!
    What amazing gifts the new year
    brings! An entire
     year's worth of wonderful
    opportunities, given to us
    one sunrise at a time. Many
    of the moments ahead will
    be marvelously disguised as
    ordinary days, but each one
    of us has the chance to make
    something extraordinary out of them.
    Each new day is a blank page
    in the diary of your life.
    The secret of success is in
    turning that diary into the
    best story you possibly can.
    Have pages on understanding
    and tales of overcoming hardships.
    Fill your story with
    enthusiasm, adventure, learning,
    and laughter. And make
     each chapter reflect time
    doing these things:
    Follow your dreams. Work hard.
    Be kind. Do what you
    can to make the door open on
    a day that is filled with
    inspiration in some special
    way. Remember: Goodness
    will be rewarded. Smiles will
    pay you back.
    Have fun. Find strength. Be
    truthful. Have faith.
    Don't focus on anything you
    lack.
    Realize that people are the
    treasures in life, and
    happiness is the real wealth.
    Have a diary that describes
    how you're doing your best,
    and…
    the rest will take care of itself.
