  • Valentine’s Ritual Countdown! 🙂

Hello everyone! Well, it seems like Christmas just passed and we are talking about our annual Valentine's Day Ritual to Erzulie Freda!   As the years have passed in doing this ritual, I find that I look forward to it more and more.

First off, there is the shopping for it!  As many of you know, we are pretty firm believers in Dollar Store Voodoo, with all the shiny trinkets and doo-dads that can be used to make a great altar.  Of course, we have many luxurious and special items for Erzulie Freda that we have collected over the years, but it is really a lot of fun to put together the Valentine's altar with, well, Valentine's goodies!

Second, I have noticed over the years how the petitions that people send in have evolved.  In the beginning, the petitions seemed very cut-and-dried: " I love Fred (or Frederica), please let him/her love me."  Those petitions have evolved into asking for love for everyone and all kinds of love – the love that peace would bring, love for children, charitable love, brotherly love, etc.  Many have sent in petitions for those they knew were in different kinds of need.  So petitions for healing love, financial love, and job love have abounded, too!

I certainly do not see anything wrong with that at all!  Just the very word "love" encompasses such a rich variety of meanings from loving ice cream to loving our husbands, wives, children, parents, and everything beyond and in between!  Looking at Valentine's Day as an opportunity to experience and share love of all kinds paints a beautiful broad spectrum of love that goes beyond paper hearts and yummy chocolates!

As we prepare for this coming Valentine's Ritual, I propose that we all see how creative we can get in our petitioning this year!  What forms of love can you radiate, choose to spread, and make a wish about?  Don't worry about sending in petitions that don't seem like the "norm!" There is NO norm when it comes to love – it is supposed to be open, crazy, fabulous, and it is supposed to mean whatever you personally want it to mean!  So don't be stopped by what you think someone else thinks you should be petitioning!  Send all your open-armed, open-minded, open-spirited petitions right on in!  (See the link above!).

    Love, light, and peace,

  • Is a “New Year New You” Necessary?

Good morning, everyone!  As we all head back to work in the shiny new year, many thoughts turn to makeovers, resolutions, changing one’s self.  The beginning of a new year is always a great time to make those resolutions to change things that we were not so happy with last year!

I have noticed with myself that I often tend to go overboard on resolutions, like so many people do!  Unfortunately, that is a great way to set yourself up for failure.  But, I do believe that there is a great deal of validity in bringing in the new year with a new version of yourself.  Sometimes it might just be  a matter of firmly deciding to leave last year in the past where it belongs.  If you had a particularly bad year in 2010, now is a great time to decide to try to let go of whatever negativity, pain, or trauma that you had.  You CAN take it with you, but why?  Even if problems of the past are still unresolved, you can leave the last months of negativity behind – cleanse yourself of them, and decide that this is a NEW beginning to solving old problems.  Sure, we sell products for cleansing  – Lady Samantha’s Hex Removal Kit, white candles, Milk of Damballah white bath, etc. and those are great to use. However, sometimes just making a very resolute promise to yourself to start over, even if it is with old challenges, can be very effective!

Sometimes we cannot see how to change or, with some folks, why!  I get tons of letters from people who can tell me exactly how they want their intended partner to change, but very little of how they could or should change.  Making a resolution to be more self-aware, take responsibility for some of what is going on in your life, could be just the thing to help some people.  I am not talking about blaming yourself for everything that happens – that is just as unhealthy as being totally unaware of what role you play in your own life.  Look for the balance in your life – drop the “poor pitiful me” victim attitude OR the “everything is my fault” martyr attitude. Instead realize that you cannot control everything, but you can control your own actions, attitudes, and self-awareness.    Now that is a resolution!

So keep those resolutions realistic but be willing to accept, create, or believe in a miracle!

    Love, light, and peace,

  • Happy New Year!

Hello everyone and a big wish for a Happy New Year to all!  It is always so invigorating and exciting to start a brand new year.  I hope that your 2011 will be filled with wonder, joy, excitement, and magick!

Looking out over the Spellmaker 2011 plans, it is great to see some old favorites coming up – the annual Erzulie’s Valentine’s Day Ritual, the start up again of the Free Prayer Group in February, of course the annual St. Patrick’s Day ritual to Sobo – not to mention that we will be doing another video voodoo conference this year!  Plus, we are planning to do a big free ancestor ritual to celebrate what would have been the 100th birthday of my father on 11/11/11.  It will be a great birthday party and an open party to honor your own ancestors.

Needless to say, there will be more public events that we will be doing, so please do stay tuned for more info!

In the meantime, take care of yourselves and have a safe and peaceful holiday weekend.  Love to all!

Just because the leaves are off the trees, doesn't mean we can't continue to serve Gran Bwa! Feeding the birds is a wonderful way to serve Gran Bwa in the colder months. Here is a bird feeder I found at the siore that reminded me of Ogoun as well 🙂

  • Overlooked Helpful Things!

    Hi there, everyone!

Someone asked me a question the other day about what things in our www.spellmaker.com product line did I think got the most overlooked – what did people forget about that might be helpful for them?  It was really such an interesting question!  :-)  This person has had a unique challenge that they have been working on for awhile now and wondered if they overlooking something that could help them.

It really did get me to thinking and I thought that I would share some of my answers to them with you, at least as much as I can without divulging information about their case. So here is my list of overlooked products:

    1.  The Voodoo Self Improvement Doll:   This ranks way up there in overlooked and underused products.  Most clients are very interested in changing someone else, or changing how someone else thinks.  :-)  Nothing wrong with that, however, the ability to "change" or improve one's self can be crucial to a case.  For instance, let's say you are working on a love case where you were with someone and they broke up with you.  You know for sure that there are some qualities about you that caused the break up.  There are some things that your partner expressed to you that needed changing or that they didn't care for.  Now as long as we aren't talking about your inherent belief system or something that is very important to you, why not try to change or improve that quality about yourself?  Chances are, it probably is something that you know needs changing!  ;-)

Also, let's say that YOU personally think that there was something about you that may have negatively impacted your relationship, some behavior that you feel needs changing.  Don't be afraid to use this doll!  :-)

What if you are working on spells like Get a Job(tm) or Big Money(tm)?  Do you feel like maybe your job skills are a little rusty or perhaps your interview methods aren't perfect?  Maybe you are nervous about interviewing?  Maybe you fear that money and wealth are not for you?  Maybe you have accepted your "fate" as being someone who just doesn't deserve money and wealth?  Using the self-improvement doll to change your thinking is perfect.

There are so many things that we overlook about ourselves that can impact any kind of case we are working on!  Remember that you are an intergral part of your own case, not just the people you are trying to affect with your spell work!  🙂

    2.  Cosmic Voodoo Destiny Egg and Cosmic Voodoo Spirituality Egg:   Again, this is about the awareness of "self"  (a much overlooked subject when people do spell work).   The Cosmic Voodoo Destiny Egg can be used in a number of useful ways in spell work – especially love spell work.   Why not use this egg to create the "destiny" of you and the person you want to be with?  Using the visualization and spell techniques of the egg – you can use this tool as a perfect adjunct work to love spell work – CREATE the DESTINY that you WANT with you and the person you want to be with!

Don't know what you want your destiny to be?  Petition for guidance and signs to see what direction you want your life to go in?

Again with job, luck, and money spell work  - create that destiny!  Certainly with adjunct work such as the Destiny Egg you can reinforce your spell work adding in this work where you start to create the destiny that you wish to live.

The Spirituality Egg can also be used in different ways for many different goals as well.  One thing that is very common is that people are very hurt, angry, and lost when they start spell work and often, too, when a case goes on for longer than anyone hopes that it will.  We start to lose faith, lose energy, and lose belief even in our selves!  The Spirituality Egg is the perfect way to renew your spiritual energy, no matter what case you are working on!  If you feel yourself getting down and feeling lost and feeling like nothing can work for you, using the Spirituality Egg to petition for spiritual strength to go on, to boost your spiritual energy, and to deepen your spiritual understanding is a great way to enhance your spell work (and your life in general!).

    3. High John the Conquerer Root Bag:  Many folks do use these root bags.  However, lots of folks don't use them, don't know what they are for or how they can help them.  High John root bags are one of those things that I feel that anyone who is going to do magick on a regular basis should have!  High John root is traditionally used to strengthen any and all magick!  It is also a personal luck and guidance  and protection mechanism.  It is something that people should keep for a lifetime and it has a tendency to take on a living energy of its own.  Many people just won't be without theirs!  I personally have had mine about 40 years.  :-)

Simply used to put on an altar to strengthen the magick, bring luck and guidance, and strengthen one's own personal magickal powers are some of the ways to use this bag.

4.Holy Hyssop Bath Additive:   Certainly this is not a substitute for something like the Milk of Damballh White Bath.  However, not every situation warrants doing a complete white bath.  There are days when you feel a temporary flood of negative emotions or you are just down or just need a quick rejuvenation!  That is where the Holy Hyssop Bath Additive can come in!  It is a great thing to just keep on hand for a quick bath to refresh yourself, refresh your energy, remove the negativity of the day, etc.  This can certainly keep you from building up negative energy, especially if you already did a white bath!

    5. The New Orleans Voodoo Lucky Doll:  This special doll is really underused!  It is a perfect way to bring more luck into the situation you are working on – love, money, etc.  It is a doll that you can keep around and just use every so often to boost a situation.  Going to see the person you are working on?  Do a quick session with this doll beforehand.  Going on an interview?  Again, do a quick session with this doll.  It isn't something you need to do every day, but certainly it is something that falls under the category of situational magickal  – you want to influence a particular situation at a particular time to enhance an opportunity for success right at that moment.  :-)  This is a product that you can just keep around and pull it out when you know you are going into a circumstance where you could use some luck!

So there are a few things that can be very helpful in day-to-day spell work, enhance your work, boost your adjunct work, etc.  🙂

Thanks to the client who asked the question in the first place!  It really did make me think. 🙂
