  • Spellmaker Online Video Voodoo Conference

    Hello everyone!  As most of you probably know by now, our 2010 Voodoo Conference will be an online video conference!  We did this for a number of reasons, the number one being that right now is not a great financial time for a lot of people and so this allows us to cut the tuition for the conference by more than half from the prior conferences.  In this way, we hope that all of those folks who have always wanted to come to the conference but couldn't afford it, will be able to come this time!

    Folks have had some questions about the conference, especially about how they will participate.  How much or how little you participate in this conference will be up to you – you can simply sit and watch or you can speak up or you can type your questions and we will see them as text questions, you can be "on" camera or "off" – there is a lot of flexibility as far as how you participate.  If you desire to be completely confidential, you can!

    People have also asked about social time (like we have at the regular conference) and we have decided that, yes, we will provide for that.  Again, that is strictly up to you as to whether or not you want to join in on a video cocktail party or not!  πŸ™‚

    Folks have also asked if we will be doing "hands on" workshops like we have in the past – yes, we will!  Every participant will still receive their "goodie bag" just like they did at the other conference, only this time it will be mailed (and some literature emailed) to them before the conference.  πŸ™‚

    The biggest thing about the whole conference is that you will be able to participate as much or as little as you desire and still get the whole benefit of the classes, lectures, workshops, and demonstrations.

    Registration is still open and the payment plan is still in effect if you need to break the payment into two parts, but that won't last too much longer as the conference is coming up in October! πŸ™‚

  • Yes You Can!

    CAN'T – A POEM BY EDGAR GUEST

    Can't is the worst word that's written or spoken;
    Doing more harm here than slander and lies;
    On it is many a strong spirit broken,
    And with it many a good purpose dies.
    It springs from the lips of the thoughtless each
    morning
    And robs us of courage we need through the
    day:
    It rings in our ears like a timely-sent warning
    And laughs when we falter and fall by the
    way.

    Can't is the father of feeble endeavor,
    The parent of terror and half-hearted work;
    It weakens the efforts of artisans clever,
    And makes of the toiler an indolent shirk.
    It poisons the soul of the man with a vision.

    It stifles in infancy many a plan;
    It greets honest toiling with open derision
    And mocks at the hopes and the dreams of a
    man.

    Can't is a word none should speak without
    blushing;
    To utter it should be a symbol of shame;
    Ambition and courage it daily is crushing;
    It blights a man's purpose and shortens his
    aim.
    Despise it with all of your hatred of error;
    Refuse it the lodgment it seeks in your brain;
    Arm against it as a creature of terror,
    And all that you dream of you some day shall
    gain.

    Can't is the word that is foe to ambition,
    An enemy ambushed to shatter your will;
    Its prey is forever the man with a mission
    And bows but to courage and patience and
    skill.
    Hate it, with hatred that's deep and undying,
    For once it is welcomed 'twill break any
    man;
    Whatever the goal you are seeking, keep trying
    And answer this demon by saying: "I can."

    "End of Poem"—————————————

    Happy Sunday one and all!  Remember that you CAN! Whatever it is, you truly can do it. I really enjoy this poem because of it's strength in railing against the "can't" attitude.  Written in the 1800's well before the "new age" movement of watered down affirmations, this tells us to HATE the word "can't," to fight against it!

    I love that! Now don't get me wrong, I love a good affirmation as well as the next person – but there is something wonderfully invigorating about this poem and it's healthy hatred of the word can't! πŸ™‚

  • Still I Rise.

    Perseverance seems to be a theme near and dear to me lately. When I came across this poem by Maya Angelou, it really spoke to me….I hope you find some inspiration in it as well.

    Still I Rise

    by Maya Angelou

    You may write me down in history
    With your bitter, twisted lies,
    You may trod me in the very dirt
    But still, like dust, I'll rise.

    Does my sassiness upset you?
    Why are you beset with gloom?
    'Cause I walk like I've got oil wells
    Pumping in my living room.

    Just like moons and like suns,
    With the certainty of tides,
    Just like hopes springing high,
    Still I'll rise.

    Did you want to see me broken?
    Bowed head and lowered eyes?
    Shoulders falling down like teardrops.
    Weakened by my soulful cries.

    Does my haughtiness offend you?
    Don't you take it awful hard
    'Cause I laugh like I've got gold mines
    Diggin' in my own back yard.

    You may shoot me with your words,
    You may cut me with your eyes,
    You may kill me with your hatefulness,
    But still, like air, I'll rise.

    Does my sexiness upset you?
    Does it come as a surprise
    That I dance like I've got diamonds
    At the meeting of my thighs?

    Out of the huts of history's shame
    I rise
    Up from a past that's rooted in pain
    I rise
    I'm a black ocean, leaping and wide,
    Welling and swelling I bear in the tide.
    Leaving behind nights of terror and fear
    I rise
    Into a daybreak that's wondrously clear
    I rise
    Bringing the gifts that my ancestors gave,
    I am the dream and the hope of the slave.
    I rise

    I rise. I rise.

  • Baggage…..

    Baggage

    β€œThe things you want are always possible; it is just that
    the way to get them is not always apparent. The only real obstacle in your path
    to a fulfilling life is you, and that can be a considerable obstacle because
    you carry the baggage of insecurities and past experience.”

                                                                    ~~ Les Brown

    Baggage. We hear
    that term tossed around alot, dont we? …. but what is it? How do we get it?
    Most importantly, how do we get rid of it? As we go through our daily
    lives, stuff happens. Sometimes its big, bad stuff. Hopefully, that does not
    happen very often. But it does, and it leaves it mark on us. Or it can leave
    its mark on a loved one. How this *stuff* effects us might not be readily
    apparent right away, but with time we may see some behavior pattern or reaction
    or even overreaction to something that might raise an eyebrow. Sometimes, we
    might feel like the picture above, dragging our past along into our future.
    That slows us down and can keep us from achieving our goals.

    Not all
    baggage is relationship based, by any means. But many of us here are working on
    relationship issues, and it seems to be a common topic.

    Almost everyone today who has
    experienced a failed relationship is carrying around some degree of emotional
    baggage. The problem with these left over feelings is that they are usually
    negative in nature, causing fears and
    doubts that carry over into future relationships. This can very well sabotage
    relationships that would otherwise have long term potential. The tricky thing
    about emotional baggage is that most of us do not realize that we are carrying
    it even after it has presented itself time and time again within our romantic
    relationships. It is essential to learn how to recognize our own emotional
    baggage in order to enjoy healthy and happy relationships in the future.

    Emotional baggage occurs when we experience a hurt within a
    relationship and that hurt is not resolved or dealt with. We then internalize
    those negative feelings and develop fears that we may or may not be aware of.
    When we then go onto the next relationship, these same fears and negative
    emotions trigger negative or irrational thoughts and behaviors within us. These
    behaviors then have a negative impact on the new relationship. Instead of
    protecting you from having the original hurtful experience repeat itself, these
    behaviors can actually cause that experience to recur time and time again. The
    fears and hurt feelings only then grow and now become justified within your own
    mind as correct. This creates a cycle that you then feel unable to escape from
    in your romantic life.

    How  can we stop the cycle? Lots of ways….there are traditional
    ways,  like therapy, self examination, journaling, talking to a close
    friend or relative. Really becoming aware of recurrent thoughts, feelings and
    actions can really help. But, since you are here reading the blog of a Voodoo
    Sister, I am going to assume that some magickal advice is being sought as well
    πŸ˜‰

    The Lady Samantha Hex Removal Kit is the first and most powerful option
    we have. This kit is an extremely powerful spiritual cleansing, and while you
    may not have been hexed, this kit is also very appropriate for cleansing away
    what holds us back emotionally.

    The Milk of Damballah White Bath kit is another option. An excellent
    spiritual and emotional cleansing bath.

    White image candles, white seven knob candles, a Cosmic Voodoo Healing
    Egg
    for yourself are also very good choices. And would work wonderfully
    as a follow up to the Hex Removal Kit or the White Bath, to allow you to
    continue to slowly and gently release issues one layer at a time.

    Whatever method you choose, traditional or magickal (or best yet a
    combination of both) addressing baggage and healing from it will definitely be
    worth the effort put forth πŸ˜‰ Remember, the most powerful healing we can do is for ourselves.

  • “Strength, Courage & Wisdom”

    Hi there!

    Thought  I would get the discussion about songs rolling! Here is a song I really like to play while getting ready to do ritual work. Not the typical beat that I would play actually for Ogoun, but I really like the message and the frame of mind it puts me in while getting ready for work! Hope you like it too πŸ˜‰

    "Strength, Courage & Wisdom" by  India Arie

    Inside my head there lives a dream that I want to see in the sun
    Behind my eyes there lives a me that I've been hiding for much too long
    'Cause I've been, too afraid to let it show
    'Cause I'm scared of the judgment that may follow
    Always putting off my living for tomorrow
    It's time to step out on faith, I've gotta show my face
    It's been elusive for so long, but freedom is mine today
    I've gotta step out on faith, It's time to show my face
    Procrastination had me down but look what I have found, I found

    [Chorus:]
    Strength, courage, and wisdom
    And it's been inside of me all along,
    Strength, courage, and wisdom
    Inside of me

    Behind my pride there lives a me, that knows humility
    Inside my voice there is a soul, and in my soul there is a voice
    But I've been, too afraid to make a choice
    'Cause I'm scared of the things that I might be missing
    Running too fast to stop and listen

    It's time to step out on faith, I've gotta show my face
    It's been elusive for so long but freedom is mine today
    I've gotta step out on faith it's time to show my face
    Procrastination had me down but look what I have found, I found

    Strength, courage, and wisdom
    And it's been inside of me all along,
    Strength, courage, and wisdom
    Inside of me

    [Bridge:]
    I close my eyes and I think of all the things that I want to see
    'Cause I know, now that I've opened up my heart I know that
    Anything I want can be, so let it be, so let it be:.

    Strength, courage, and wisdom
    It's been inside of me all along,
    Strength, courage, wisdom
    It's been inside of me all along, everyday I'm praying for:

    Strength, courage, and wisdom
    And it's been inside of me all along,
    Strength, courage, and wisdom
    Inside of me

    Vamp
    I found it in me, I found it finally
    I'm sure to keep it' cause I like it, I say thank you
