Stubborn Intruder! Read this!
Hello!
Recently, I have had a few clients write me about an intruder who just was being stubborn about going away. Things get close…OH SO CLOSE! … but then, nope, they do not go. As I was drifting off to sleep last night, I remembered these special candle magick instructions I received from Mambo Sam several years back. So, I would like to share them with you here. These instructions are great for those stubborn intruders, but also if your HD has one of those BFFs who just keeps running you down, saying negative things to your HD about you, or maybe is jealous and interfering in some way. Those of you who are unfortunate enough to have exeperienced this know what I mean!
What you need: 1 brown image candle magick kit to represent your HD. 1 brown image candle magick kit to represent the person who is interfering. 1 Famous Black Mummy Candle kit. A fire proof surface.
What to do:
The Black Mummy is going to be in the middle of the two different brown candles, one that you use to represent your HD, one that you use to represent the intruder. Have the two candles face each other. The candles should be prepped as per the instructions that came with the candles (I just pulled some candles off the stock room shelf to take this picture – prep yours as you would normally)
Get the two brown candles going with their ritual (again see Candle Magick Kit instructions that came with candles), your petition is that there is fighting, distaste, discord, repugnance, whatever you would like to happen between these two people. Then get your Black Mummy candle going (again, as per the specific instructions for that candle!)
Now, turn the brown candles so that they are facing AWAY from each other. Do your Black Mummy petitions that they will turn away from each other now and forever never to look back!
Let the candles burn for however long you would like to do the session (9 – 33 minutes). IMPORTANT – at NO TIME do you mention yourself or put yourself into the petiton in any way – no “leave Susie and come to me, Judy” – just “leave Susie” or "turn away from so and so" or whatever your petition is. Petition for HD to come to you in some other work. This work is simply to drive apart someone interfering with you and your HD. Also, at NO TIME are you angry or upset with your HD! You are simply using this candle to get him/her away from this intruder.
Hope you find this helpful! Any questions, just ask!!!

We Shall Overcome!
We Shall Overcome
Hi there!
This is one of my favorite songs. Full of strength, courage and determination. Very much like Ogoun! To me it has always seemed like singing a prayer 🙂 It is one of the songs that is always on my ipod. I was reading a little about the history of this song, and I found it very interesting. An old folk song, "We'll Overcome Someday" was written as a hymn in 1901 by Rev. Charles Tindley, of the African Methodist Episcopal Church. In the 1950's the song was sung on picket lines of striking tobacco union workers across the South. Shortly thereafter, the first recorded version was heard, under the name "We Will Overcome" and was still considered a Spiritual song. The song was also popular during the civil rights movement, having been incorportated into Dr Martin Luther King Jr's last speech. Robert F. Kennedy sang the song while touring South Africa speaking to anti-apartheid crowds in 1966. There are many more stories of this song being sung in times when strength and determination was needed. These are just a few. Now, this song is sung in many contries, and in many different languages. My favorite version is Springsteen's, which he sung at the benefit following the earthquakes in Haiti.
We Shall Overcome
We shall overcome
We shall overcome
We shall overcome some dayDarling, here in my heart
I do believe
We shall overcome some dayWe'll walk hand in hand
We'll walk hand in hand
We'll walk hand in hand some dayDarling, here in my heart
I do believe
We'll walk hand in hand some dayHere we are not afraid
We are not afraid
We shall overcome some dayDarling, here in my heart
I do believe
We shall overcome some dayDarling, here in my heart
I do believe
We shall overcome some dayHere we shall overcome some day.

Readings during castings? Why not?
Hey there!
Below are some very wise words from our dear, dear late Sister Candelaria. This is a topic we see come up from time to time, and every once in a while, I think it bears repeating. This is not directed at any one in particular (as Sister says below). But it is important information everyone should know 🙂
***Begin post****
The reason why we ask you not to have readings while you are casting, is quite simple. When you are actually casting a spell on someone or having one cast for you, the energy surrounding that person and the entire situation is all stirred up. Any time you read the energy around spellwork, during the casting process, you will get a turmoil of emotion. Spellwork stirs the pot, so to speak, and shakes things up. That's what it's crafted to do! Because of this, any time you get a reading during spellwork the reading will not be accurate. It's just a simple fact. I have had some people tell me recently (I'm not pointing fingers, I've heard this more than once.) that they got a reading during spellwork and it was accurate because they were told what they expected to hear, such as "your HD is blocking" or "your HD has no emotion toward you." Even though you were willing to take that as an accurate answer, I'm here to tell you that it was NOT AN ACCURATE ANSWER, because that person was in the midst of receiving your spellwork, thus their emotions were all twisted and turned around!! Now, those are pretty mild for a reading during spellwork. Other examples of readings during spellwork are "your HD doesn't like you," or "your HD wants you to just go away and leave im alone,"or even "I don't think you and your HD will be together." THOSE ARE NOT ACCURATE READINGS EITHER, yet if someone tells you that about your HD, you are going to believe it!! So you would take that information, thinking it was correct, and you would process it over and over again in your heart and in your mind and you would start to have negative (hurt) feelings about your HD and it would basically break your heart. This in turn will cause real damage to your case, simply because you are putting negative energy toward it. But here's the kicker…THAT INFORMATION WAS NOT TRUE, YET YOU TOOK IT TO HEART, AND YOUR SPELLWORK IS NOT EVEN FINISHED YET!!! You've taken a step toward destroying something that you have not even completed yet. That's not constructive, my friends! In fact, that's destructive and I have seen it hurt cases that could have had a swift and successful end. So basically what I'm saying is, that even though it sounds like a good idea, GETTING A PSYCHIC READING DURING SPELLWORK IS NEVER AN OPTION. It's not fair to you, it's not fair to your HD, and it's not fair to your case. It's destructive, and it really can do serious damage to your case. Mambo has set down these rules to help you. I know it's hard, but I can tell you that if you play by the rules Mambo has set forth, you have much greater chance of getting your Heart's Desire, and isn't that why you are here in the first place.:-) So, as far as getting psychic readings during spellwork…Please DON'T DO IT!! We want you all to get your HD! Help us, help you.

Erzulie Freda! By Mambo Sam
Erzulie Freda
Image of Erzulie Freda Dahomey by Saundra Elise Ziyatdinov.Erzulie Freda is the Vodou and New Orleans Voodoo goddess of love. A gracious, luxurious, and refined lwa (Vodou Spirit), Erzulie epitomizes femininity, love, passion, and is called upon for favors regarding one's love affairs. However, Erzulie Freda is love of every kind; she is not limited to romance. She is often misrepresented as petulant and never being able to be satisfied. This does a gross injustice to this beautiful spirit. The fact that she often dissolves into tears is misinterpreted as her being dissatisified with what is given to her. That is not it at all; she dissolves into tears because she knows that no amount of material wealth can make up for the lack of love and spirituality in one's life. So even though she is often served in luxury, upon appearance at Vodou rituals, she is often wracked with tears eventually. It is important to remember, also, that she cries so that you won't have to. Another misrepresentation of Erzulie is that she is flighty and unable to stay with one man. This misinformation comes from the knowledge of her three marriages; once to Ogoun, once to Agwe, and once to Papa Legba (a belief in our New Orleans tradition; in Haitian tradition her third husband is Damballah). The three gold rings that most Erzulie altars have on them represent these three marriages. However, we must remember that these three marriages probably took place over lifetimes. It is sometimes hard for us to conceive of the many lives of the lwa and how long they have been with us!
Serving Erzulie Freda
As with most lwa, she is a complex spirit having lived many lifetimes to evolve to her present state. She, of course, has happy, wonderful, flirty appearances, also. She does love refined things and wants to drink the finest champagne and eat the finest foods (especially delicious sweets and chocolates). She loves frilly, girly things and dresses in beautiful clothes of silk and lace. She loves diamonds and gold..anything that represents wealth and finery! She knows these things do not make up for the sorrows of life, but enjoying these things eases the pain for many of us! Erzulie is no different!
Many people are afraid to do service to Erzulie Freda if they don't have much money. That is such an injustice to her! Yes, she loves refined and expensive things; that is not in question. However, just because you don't have a lot of money does not mean you should not serve her. We are firm believers that any service done with a good heart and doing the best you can will be well received.
Luxury can be a state of mind and an environment can be luxurious without being expensive. So first start thinking of the space that you will be doing your service in. If you purchased the one-day ritual kit or plan on doing the ritual as written on the website make whatever area you will be doing your service in as lovely as you can! Even if you temporarily use one of your own bed sheets as an altar cloth, that is okay because you can spray your perfume on it and make it something special. Set the mood for the ritual with any candles you have and put on romantic music or tune your radio to a soft rock or other type of station that plays the kind of music that would set the mood for romance. Do you have jewelry? You can put it on the altar and "give" it to Erzulie! That doesn't mean you can't wear it! Of course you can, but if you dedicate it to her, then you have given her something wonderful. Do you have old magazines lying around? Cut out pictures of beautiful things – jewelry, clothes, perfume, etc. Make a simple collage out of them and put them on your altar for her!
In Service,
Mambo Sam

Harvesting your Magickal Herbs!
Harvesting and storing your magickal herbs!
Whether you’re an apartment dweller with a few small containers on the patio, or a rural gardener with an entire patch of magical goodies to choose from, harvesting homegrown herbs is a gratifying experience. You can either harvest a few bits at a time, as you need them, and use them fresh, or you can gather entire bunches at once to dry and preserve.
Harvesting Your Magical Herbs
:max_bytes(150000):strip_icc():format(webp)/HerbGardening_1500-56a6df4d5f9b58b7d0e53364.jpg)
Gather fresh herbs from your garden for magical uses. Helen King / Fuse / Getty Images Although there’s no hard and fast rule about what to use when cutting herbs, some magical traditions recommend the use of a boline, or ritual cutting tool, for herb harvesting. If your tradition doesn’t require this, you can use any pair of garden snippers.
Keep in mind that the best time to harvest your herbs is early in the day, after the morning dew has dried away. Harvesting them early, before the sun has had time to dry them out, allows the plants to maintain their essential oils, which is an important part of herb use. The oils are what .
Basic cutting: if you’re only going to collect what you need for a ritual or working, simply snip off the leaves or stems that you’re going to use that day. Some herbs, like basil, are easily stripped of leaves just by sliding your fingers along the branch. Others, like rosemary, have a woody stem that is easier to snip off in its entirety. During the summer months, snipping off leaves and stems will encourage new growth in your plants.
If it’s the flowers you’re after, such as chamomile or lilacs, collect blooms after they’ve developed fully and opened up. If you’ve got a plant whose seeds are the main focus, be sure to wait until the seeds have fully developed and begun to dry and turn brown on their own. An easy way to gather seeds, such as on the dill plant, is to place a paper bag over the head of the plant, and shake it into the bag. Any dry seeds should fall easily into your paper sack.
Bunch cutting: If you’d like to gather entire bundles of herbs to hang up and dry, snip off the stems where they branch off from the main plant. This not only encourages new growth later in the season, it also makes it easier to hang them up in a bunch.
How to Dry Your Magical Herbs
:max_bytes(150000):strip_icc():format(webp)/HerbGarden_1500-56a6deb13df78cf77290a2e6.jpg)
Maximilian Stock Ltd. /Taxi / Getty Images When you dry herbs, you have a couple of options as to method. A bundle or bunch of herbs can be tied together with string–use about a dozen stems tied together to make a nice fat bundle–and hung in a dry, airy place. It’s generally not a good idea to hang them in direct sunlight, because they can burn and become over-dry. You can hang them from a drying rack in a warm spot in your house, and let them sit for about three weeks. This is usually enough time to dry most herbs – you’ll know they’re done drying because the leaves will crack when you pinch them.
Again, if you’re harvesting the seeds or blossoms, use the paper bag method. Secure the bag over the head of your drying bundle, and as the plant dries, the seeds and flowers will fall off into the bag.
Another method that some people like to use–and it works well if you’re in a hurry–is to lay the gathered herbs flat on a cookie sheet and place it in the oven at a low temperature. This will take a few hours, and it makes your house smell amazing. Be cautious, though; you don’t want to overbake your herbs, because they’ll be useless if they burn.
If you have a dehydrator, you can use that in a similar manner as the oven method. Fortunately, a dehydrator works at a lower temperature than your oven, so the risk of burning your leaves is lower. Be sure to check them periodically to see if they’re done drying. Again, when the leaves crumble to the touch, they’re ready to go.
Storing Your Magical Herbs
:max_bytes(150000):strip_icc():format(webp)/HerbJars_1500-56a6df4e3df78cf77290a433.jpg)
Store your herbs in glass jars for long-term use. Cavan Images / PhotoLibrary / Getty Images To store your herbs, there are a variety of methods you can use. While a plastic Zip-loc bag works well to keep air out, it doesn’t keep out the light, and that’s something you want to be sure to do. Use colored glass jars, or ceramic containers with an airtight lid to store your herbs. Be sure to label each jar with the herb’s name on it–and if it’s something that might be toxic, make sure you indicate this on the label, particularly if you have children in your home. Keep your herb jars in a cool, dark area; don’t store them over the stove or in an area that is known for high heat.

Rosemary Magick!

Maximilian Stock Ltd. / Getty Images Rosemary was known to ancient practitioners. It was an herb known for strengthening the memory and helping the brain and was often cultivated in kitchen gardens. Roman priests used rosemary as incense in religious ceremonies, and many cultures considered it a herb to use as protection from evil spirits and witches. In England, it was burned in the homes of those who had died from illness and placed on coffins before the grave was filled with dirt. For magical use, burn rosemary to rid a home of negative energy, or as an incense while you meditate. Hang bundles on your front door to keep harmful people, like burglars, from entering. Yarrow in Magick!
Another popular herb during fall and Mabon is Yarrow! It's autumnal colors and readiness for harvest make it a natural addition to Mabon altars and spells!
Yarrow

Chris Burrows / Getty Images Yarrow was often called Woundwort or Knight's Milfoil, thanks to its use in treatment of battle injuries. Scotland's Highlanders use it to make a healing ointment, and in the Orkney Islands, yarrow is used to make a tea that "dispels melancholia." Maud Grieve tells us in A Modern Herbal that the Romans referred to it as herba militaris, the soldier's herb. French workmen in the Middle Ages knew that yarrow worked well on injuries to fingers and hands – in fact, in some areas it was known as "the herb of carpenters."
In addition to its uses in soft-tissue injuries, yarrow is well known as a combatant against fever. A number of Native American tribes used it in teas that were given to the sick, to bring body temperatures down. In India, a tea called gandana is given to the ill to induce sweating, thus lowering the fever.
Yarrow can be used in magical workings related to healing, love, and courage. Wear it on your person to boost your self-esteem and courage, or carry a bunch of dried yarrow in your hand to stop fear. A sprig hanging over the marriage bed guarantees at least seven years of passion and love. Taking a ritual bath with yarrow can help increase your psychic abilities. It can also be used to exorcise negative energies from a place or person.
If you're working on a healing ritual for someone who is ill, consider burning dried yarrow as incense, or place a sachet of yarrow under the person's pillow to bring about restful sleep.
Other Names: Achillea, Lady's Mantle, Woundwort
Gender: Feminine
Element: Water
Planetary Connection: VenusYarrow has a fairly bitter taste, but you can use both the leaves and flowers in cooking. The leaves themselves, which are flat and paddle-shaped, can be chopped up, seasoned with some lemon juice and salt and pepper, and served either in a salad or with a light summer seafood dish. If you'd rather not eat it, try putting some yarrow flowers in a bowl and adding boiling water to it — then put your face over it and let the yarrow steam open your pores.
Note: pregnant women should not take yarrow internally, and it should not be used for undiagnosed bleeding.
