  • Prayer for September 11.

    Today is a somber day across the country. There are many memorials and acts of service going on today. I hope that we each can take some time to participate in any way we are capable.

    Blessings,

    Sister Bridget

    Hold on to what is good
    even if it is a handful of earth.
    Hold on to what you believe
    even if it is a tree which stands by itself
    Hold onto what you must do
    even if it is a long way from here.
    Hold on to life
    even when it is easier letting go.
    Hold on to my hand
    even when I have gone away from you.
    –Native American Prayer

    ~~~~~
    We shall overcome
    We are not afraid
    We are not alone
    We shall overcome
    We shall overcome some day
    –spiritual hymn/Martin Luther King Jr.
    July2011 045
    Here are some photos of my apron for Papa Loko made by Mambo Sam and her mother in law, Eileen.
    Each apron I get is beautiful! I can not pick a favorite!
    Once you order your apron of choice, a collaborative effort between Mambo Sam and her mother-in-law, Eileen, begins. Mambo Sam will personally choose the material pattern, colors, and decorative touches of your apron and scarf. She will consecrate the material and bless all parts/decorations, etc. Eileen works her magick with her professional sewing skills! Once the apron/scarf set is complete, Mambo will then again take the apron and this time she will dedicate it to the lwa that you have chosen.
  • Top Ten Reasons to Adopt the LAW of GRATITUDE
    Top Ten Reasons to Adopt the LAW of GRATITUDE
    What would your day be like if you started and ended it by simply noticing all that you have in your life?
    If you count all your assets, you always show a profit. Gratitude is a natural high. When you live in tandem with your spirit, appreciating all of life and what you have, you discover more joy and kindness in the world. Miracles happen everywhere all the time, but only those with an "Attitude of Gratitude" seem to notice them.
    This circle of peace grows and you return to your natural state of joy, love and peace, knowing you are whole and complete just as you are.
    "Gratitude is not only the greatest of virtues, but the
    parent of all the others." ~ Cicero
    The following is a list of the top ten reasons to adopt the Law of Gratitude in your life:
    One. Being in Gratitude Only Has Positive Side Effects.
    Positive emotions make you feel good and offer a sense of comfort. When we take a few moments to express our appreciation inwardly or to another, immediately we begin to feel happier, more relaxed, more optimistic.
    Two. Feelings of Gratitude Provide Short-Cuts to Miracles.
    Negative thoughts and feelings create an interruption in the natural flow of life. When you are feeling positive and grateful you accelerate what it is that you desire. Consciously appreciating what you already have is the short-cut to manifestation and the secret to personal fulfillment.
    Three. Thoughts of Gratitude Flood Your Body with Immune-Boosting Endorphins.
    Studies also provide evidence that a positive, appreciative attitude enhances the body's healing system and general health.
    When you hold feelings of thankfulness for at least 15 to 20 seconds, beneficial physiological changes take place in your body. Levels of the stress hormones cortisol and norepinephrine decrease, producing a cascade of beneficial metabolic changes. Coronary arteries relax, thus increasing the blood supply to your heart. And your breathing becomes deeper, raising the oxygen level of your tissues.
    Four. Feeling Grateful Puts you Back into the 'Flow of Life' at the Speed of Thought. Thoughts create things. If you are feeling and thinking positive thoughts, you create positive situations. You draw positive people to you. Like attracts like.
    Five. Gratitude Unlocks the Fullness of Life
    Feelings of gratitude turn what you have into enough, and more. It turns denial into acceptance, chaos to order, confusion to clarity. It can turn a meal into a feast or a house into a home. Gratitude makes sense of your past, brings peace for today, and creates a vision for tomorrow.
    Six. Feelings of Gratitude Give You a 'Natural High'.
    Grateful people tend to be more optimistic, a characteristic that researchers say boosts the immune system. Studies indicate that daily gratitude exercises result in higher reported levels of alertness, enthusiasm, determination, optimism and energy. Grateful people experience less depression and stress, are more likely to help others, exercise regularly and tend to make more progress toward personal goals.
    People who feel grateful are also more likely to feel loved.
    Seven. Gratitude Provides an Immediate Sense of Well-Being.
    Gratitude, it turns out, can help us better manage stress. Gratitude research is beginning to suggest that feelings of thankfulness have tremendous positive value in helping people cope with daily problems, especially stress.
    Eight. Feeling Grateful is the Main Cause of 'Sustained Joy'.
    Focusing on the gifts one has been given is an antidote to envy, resentment, regret and other negative states that undermine long-term happiness. Joy is the simplest form of gratitude.
    Nine. The More You Give — The More You Receive.
    You always get more of whatever you appreciate. When you express LOVE, GRATITUDE, and SINCERE APPRECIATION, you naturally expand. Consciously appreciating what you already have is the short-cut to manifestation and the secret to personal fulfillment.
    The more you assist others, the more you will assist yourself.
    Ten. When You Are Genuinely Thankful Anger and Fear Disappear.
    One of the incredible truths about gratitude is that it is impossible to feel both the positive emotion of thankfulness and a negative emotion such as anger or fear at the same time.
    To Practice This Thought:
    – Be lavish in your gratefulness.
    – Make gratitude a daily ritual.
    – Be thankful for whatever forces you to deal with your own strong emotions.
    – Set aside an hour or two to do nothing much except be grateful.
    Focus on what is working in your life and what IS right in the world. It doesn't matter how small or seemingly insignificant it may be. Before long you will notice that more things will fall into place with little or no effort on your part. Gratitude is a wonderful tool to use to feel good fast.
  • Poem for today…..
    "Possibility"
    by Ralph Masrton
    "In the seed, there is a forest waiting to grow.
    On the artist's canvas, a masterpiece is waiting to be painted.
    In the engineer's workstation,
    a technical breakthrough is waiting to be developed.
    Everywhere there is possibility.
    Every moment of every life is filled with possibilities,
    and the next moment as well.
    Every problem has a possible solution.
    Every goal has a possibility of achievement.
    Right now, right this moment,
    your life has possibilities that you never even considered.
    Possibilities you can follow to overcome the challenges you face.
    Possibilities that can bring joy and fulfilment.
    There is a pathway leading to wherever you want to go.
    All you need to do is find it and start the journey.
    Today does not have to be like yesterday.
    There are plenty of other possibilities.
    Consider your possibilities. Follow your possibilities.
    Open yourself to what could be, and make it so."
  • Reiki and its benefits.
    For those who partake in alternative medicine, Reiki is a powerful compliment to all therapies whether traditional or non-traditional. Whatever the case may be Reiki is a practice that can bring body, mind, and spirit into balance.
    What is Reiki?
    In 1922 a Buddhist monk named Mikao Usui meditated for 21 days atop Mount Kurama, Japan. It is said that during his retreat that the concept of Reiki healing was given to him through divine inspiration. Later that year he established the Usui Reiki Healing Society in Tokyo.
    The name Reiki itself is made up two Japanese words. When combined these words literally translate to "guided spiritual life force energy". The energy generated by the practitioner is said to come from the divine and not the practitioner themselves.
    This would mean that the energy is pure and inexhaustible. The energy transmitted during the session is also deemed "intelligent" and travels to the precise area in need of healing, even without the practitioner or recipient being aware of it.
    How does Reiki work?
    Reiki can be performed over the whole body or over a specific area. The practitioner can use a touching or non-touching technique, where the hands hover over the recipient's body by a few centimeters. In either case the goal is for the flow of energy to be released through the hands of the practitioner and penetrate the body of the recipient.
    The length of a Reiki session lasts from 45 to 90 minutes. The practitioner's hands stay over each area of the recipient's body for 3 to 5 minutes. Reiki can either be performed traditionally with set hand positions or informally where the format is more open.
    There is a second level of Reiki that allows for healing over a distance. This is accomplished by using three special symbols that aid the practitioner to connect with the recipient. This means that healing may be performed no matter the location.
    Can I perform Reiki on myself?
    The energy involved when performing Reiki makes it an excellent candidate for self-healing. In fact it is said that when a practitioner generates energy for a healing it enters through their crown Chakra in turn providing them with healing while healing the recipient.
    The Reiki technique is simple and powerful. Practitioners attest that the concepts surrounding Reiki are so wholesome and safe that even children can learn to heal. Reiki has no side effects and can be used on anyone one in any social setting, even on plants and animals.
    How can Reiki help?
    Reiki is used for many types of ailments both physical and psychological. The flow of divine energy creates a chain reaction in the body that promotes healing at all levels. Reiki is a holistic approach to healing and deals with the human body, mind, and spirit as a complete system. Therefore it is effective in all arenas of healing and compliments modern medical treatments. Reiki is not promoted to replace other forms of therapies but encouraged as part of a comprehensive health strategy.
  • Cookie Therapy!
    Hello!
    On my recent trip to visit MaParents (Marran and Parran Corfield), day 1 of my trip consisted of some time to kick back and relax and undergo some cookie therapy. WHAT?? you say! What is cookie therapy? Well…..the dictionary definition of therapy is -  treatment of physical, mental, or behavioral problems that is meant to cure or rehabilitate somebody. And let me tell you, cookie baking and decorating can cure ALOT of things!
    ABQSpring2011 001 Start with a clean workspace…..
    ABQSpring2011 002 Bake some cookies…..
    ABQSpring2011 008 Pick your colors, piping or flooding (I learned all about frosting the fancy way! Tho I think Martha Stewart's job is safe with me around….)
    ABQSpring2011 026 PURDY!
    ABQSpring2011 025 And not so purdy, but rather cathartic cookies.
    ABQSpring2011 027 Cookies for the Lwa 🙂
    And there you have it – Cookie therapy while on vacation the Albuquerque way.
    Love
